2023.03.21 07:34 TheLimeyCanuck [HowTo] Install Windows Server 2022 on a Lenovo M720Q or M920Q Tiny PC

The Lenovo ThinkCentre M720Q/M920Q Tiny PC is a popular choice of homelabbers. For such a small package it's a very capable mini server with a reasonably light power requirements. While some of the other variants in the ThinkCentre Tiny line don't have a usable PCIe slot, the Q models just require a cheap riser adapter to extend the PCIe slot to the top of the case so a half height x8 card can be installed. The riser design actually allows x16 cards to fit, but they will only run at x8. I just installed Windows Server 2022 on a M720Q and ran into some snags along the way. It took quite a bit of Googling and experimentation to get it all working properly and I thought it might help others trying the same thing if I put all the info I tracked down from multiple sources into a single post. While this howto is specific to the Lenovo ThinkCentre Tiny PCs it might be useful to those installing Visual Studio 2022 on other homelab metal too. Note that this solution requires some GUI intervention so it probably only works on the Desktop Experience versions of Windows Server. I haven't tried it on a core-only installation.

Background

I recently upgraded from 300Mbps cable internet to 1.7Gbps fiber. For over five years I've been running pfSense in a level 2 VM (VMware Workstation) on an always-on desktop PC on my LAN. While this worked great at 300Mbps it proved inadequate for multi-gigabit speeds. With a direct connection to the Bell HomeHub 4000 gigabit ports it can only manage 4-500Mbps throughput, so it was time to move pfSense into something better.
After seriously looking at a bunch of fanless 2.5Gbps micro-appliance boxes I realized I could buy a used 1L format tiny PC and put an SFP+ PCIe NIC and two 10Gbps transceivers in it for less money and only a slight increase in power consumption. I'd also be able to run a level 1 hypervisor and move several servers from my LAN there too, allowing some of the always-on PCs to be switched off most of the time. In the end I got a good price on a used Lenovo M720Q which has an i5-8400T 1.7GHz CPU (with hardware AES), 8GB RAM, single gigabit Ethernet port, one USB-C 3.1 Gen 1, two USB 3.1 Gen 1, two USB 3.1 Gen 2, one HDMI, and one DisplayPort connection. It also has integrated PCIe WiFi (which I will probably remove), 250GB M.2 NVMe SSD, and the optional second DisplayPort output (which I will definitely remove). All in a case about the same size as the old cable modem from my old ISP. It's actually only about 2/3 the size of the HomeHub 4000 fiber modem I'm using now.
Now the platform is decided it's time to evaluate hypervisors while I wait for the Mellanox dual SFP+ PCIe card, PCIe riser adapter, and two 10GBASE-T transceivers to arrive from China. I plan to test ESXi and Proxmox later, but I currently have a virtualized Windows Server 2016 VM I fire up for the fax server function whenever my wife needs to fax from her desk in her financial services business, so it makes sense to consider using Hyper-V as the hypervisor and just enable the fax server role so it is always available without needing to start a VM for it.
I loaded a copy of Windows Server 2022 on the M720Q but quickly realized it wasn't going to be a turnkey installation.

The Problem

Even though it is recent, the Windows Server 2022 installer doesn't include chipset drivers for the M720Q. Most importantly there is no driver included for the Intel I219V LAN chip in the Lenovo so there is no way to go online to install the missing drivers from the web. This wouldn't normally be too much of a problem since you can usually collect the necessary drivers onto a USB stick beforehand and then install them manually after the OS. The challenge is that there are no Windows Server driver installers for this NIC and the Windows 10/11 ones won't install onto WS 2022. If you could get onto the internet Lenovo has an online driver scanner which could find the drivers you need and install them automatically, but you can't.
Also, although the WiFi card in the M720Q includes Bluetooth, Windows Server doesn't know how to install the driver for the BT Personal Area Network Service on that device and will show it as non-functional in Device Manager even after you have managed to install the BT driver. You will have to tell it what driver to install manually.

The NIC Driver Solution

The problem with the Windows 10/11 I219V drivers is that the INF file doesn't include the necessary entries for Windows Server to know how to install it. Luckily there is a way to edit it so WS accepts it, but this means you will need to temporarily disable driver signing and Secure Boot. Once the modified driver INF is installed you can re-enable everything again. I found how to do this here, but I will extract the relevant parts and detail the steps in this post.
First you need to download the Win10 NIC driver from here. The one you want is the Wired_driver_nn.n_x64.zip one. Extract Wired_driver_nn.n_x64.exe from the ZIP file and then use something like 7Zip to extract the contents of the EXE into its own subdirectory.
You'll need to figure out which INF file to edit, and for that you'll need the hardware ID of the Intel NIC. Find the broken NIC in Device Manager and get the vendor and device portion of the ID string. For instance if the hardware ID is PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_15BC&SUBSYS_85F01043 the part you want is VEN_8086&DEV_15BC. Now we can use PowerShell to search for that string in all the INF files in the driver pack.
Fire up Powershell and navigate to the directory you extracted the driver EXE to. This NIC is 1Gbps so we only have to search in the PRO1000\WinX64 subdirectory. For reasons I don't claim to understand, the driver in WS2022 won't install for us, so we will search for an INF to edit in the NDIS65 subdirectory instead. These Powershell commands will return the name of the INF file you will need to edit in the next step.
CD \PRO1000\WinX64\NDIS65 Get-ChildItem -recurse Select-String -pattern "Ven_8086&Dev_15BC" group path select name
...making sure to replace the vendor and device string with the one you got from the previous step. Now that you know what file to edit open it in your text editor of choice.
Within the INF file search for the section [ControlFlags] and delete everything within that section. Don't remove the [ControlFlags] section heading though.
Search for the section [Intel.NTamd64.10.0.1] and copy every line from that section. Next search for the section [Intel.NTamd64.10.0] and append all the lines you just copied from [Intel.NTamd64.10.0.1] to the lines already there. Do not delete the existing lines in [Intel.NTamd64.10.0] just add to them.
You are done modifying the driver INF. Save it and copy the entire extracted EXE folder to a USB stick for transfer to the M720Q/M920Q. If you haven't already installed Windows Server on your target machine, do it now.

Installing the Modified LAN Driver

When you modify a driver INF like we just did the vendor security signature in the file is no longer valid and Windows Server will not allow it to be installed unless we temporarily disable driver signing. There are two ways configure WS for this... the easier command line method which works on hardware with UEFI and the more complicated GUI method required if your device only has an old-fashioned BIOS. The article I linked to at the top explains both ways, but since both the M720Q and 920Q have UEFI I will only detail the CLI method here. If you have UEFI Safe Boot turned on one of the required PowerShell commands will fail so you need to turn it off before proceeding. Any changes we make here to get the modified driver installed with be reverted again before we are done. On the ThinkCentres you get into UEFI setup by pressing F12 during bootup and then selecting the last option presented. Once you have Safe Boot turned off restart the machine.
When Windows Server 2022 has completely booted open an elevated cmd window and execute these three commands...
bcdedit /set LOADOPTIONS DISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS bcdedit /set TESTSIGNING ON bcdedit /set nointegritychecks OFF
Restart the machine to apply the new settings. Now with driver signing turned off you can go into Device Manager and select Update Driver Software... for the LAN NIC. When asked choose Browse my computer for driver software and then on the next dialog enter the location of the PRO1000\WinX64\NDIS65 folder on your USB stick and click Next. You will get a warning that Windows can't verify the publisher of the driver, which is because we messed with it, but just click Install this driver software anyway. If all goes well the driver will install and you now have Ethernet functionality, ready for the next step.

Install the Chipset Drivers

Open this page in the Edge browser and click the Scan Now button in the Automatic Update box. For Lenovo to scan your machine's installed hardware it will ask you to install Lenovo Bridge software. It's required for this to work, so just say yes. After scanning it will also ask you to install a live installer utility, also required.
After scanning you should get a list of all the devices it found requiring drivers. On my particular M720Q it found 10 devices. You can select which ones you want to install before proceeding so if there is something there you have a reason not to want the suggested driver for, turn that one off. In my case it offered a UEFI update, which I accepted, but this is something you might want to delay updating till later. Once you have told it which drivers you want click the install button and let it do its thing. I found that while it scanned for installed hardware fairly quickly, if you let it install all the drivers it found it can take quite a long time. You might want to grab a coffee or a sandwich while it works, but be aware that it will likely ask you for permission to install an unsigned driver again part way through so don't stray too far.
Also note that if you accepted a UEFI update it may reboot your machine to flash the new image before it has finished installing everything else. If this happens (it did for me) then after the reboot you will have to go back to the Lenovo Automatic Update page and tell it to scan and install again to complete updating the remaining drivers.
Once all the drivers have been installed reboot your machine before checking in Device Manager since some of the drivers don't seem to complete installation until the next restart.

The Bluetooth Personal Area Network Service Driver

After the reboot Device Manager should show all device drivers installed and working... except one. For some reason Windows Server doesn't identify the correct driver for device ID BTH\MS_BTHPAN, even with the BT drivers installed, so you will still see one device left without a valid driver installed. Luckily the fix is easy. In Device Manager right-click on the broken device and select Update driver then Browse my computer for drivers. On the next dialog choose Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer. From the list of device categories pick Bluetooth then select Microsoft -> Personal Area Network Service and install it. Once done you should see all drivers installed and working in Device Manager.

Cleaning Up

Now that all the devices in your ThinkCentre have working drivers it's time to re-enable driver signing to avoid malicious driver installation in the future. Open an elevated cmd window and enter these three commands in order...
bcdedit /set nointegritychecks ON bcdedit /set TESTSIGNING OFF bcdedit /set LOADOPTIONS ENABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS
Next restart your machine and enter the UEFI setup by pressing the F12 key during boot. Turn Safe Boot back on and then allow the ThinkCentre to continue booting. At this point you should have a fully functional M720Q/M920Q running Windows Server 2022.

Conclusion

The Lenovo M720Q and M920Q Tiny PCs are perfect for many homelabs, offering ample connectivity with credible performance in a very compact package. Even in the older M720Q the i5 processors support hardware AES, enabling virtualization of pfSense/OPNsense with minimal performance hit, and it can easily take dual/quad NIC cards up to 10Gbps. Although the newer M920Q is a bit pricier, the older M720Q is almost the same machine and can be had for under $200 used. The only problem is that the chipset in them is not one which the Windows Server installer has drivers for. I hope that my tutorial will help others get over the hurdles and add these little gems to your homelab.

2023.03.21 07:08 Magnanimo1810 A full dark mode distro

I am currently using Linux Mint XFCE and the user experience have been good to me, Mint is stable and rarely has critical errors. My biggest concern is that when I activate the dark mode theme some panels, windows and programs do not adapt to the dark mode theme at all and still being in the default theme. So, I would like to switch to a distro with a full dark mode theme. I have a PC with 2GB Nvidia GeForce GT 710, Intel i3 9th gen and 12 GB RAM, so I don't mind about the desktop environment I just want one that can allow a full dark mode on the system. What are your suggestions for the issue?

Litech Pakistan is one of the leading suppliers of fiber optic cables in the country. In this article, we will explore the pricing of fiber optic cables in Pakistan, as offered by Litech Pakistan.
Fiber optic cables are made up of thin strands of glass or plastic fibers that transmit data as light signals. These cables offer several advantages over traditional copper cables, including higher bandwidth, faster data transfer rates, longer transmission distances, and immunity to electromagnetic interference. Fiber optic cables are available in different types, such as single-mode fiber, multimode fiber, and plastic optical fiber, each with its own specifications and uses.
Litech Pakistan offers a wide range of fiber optic cables, including single-mode and multimode fiber optic cables, armored and unarmored cables, and indoor and outdoor cables. The prices of these cables vary depending on their type, length, and other specifications. Generally, the prices of fiber optic cables are higher than those of copper cables due to the higher cost of the raw materials and manufacturing processes involved.
The price of a standard 100-meter long single-mode fiber optic cable from Litech Pakistan ranges from PKR 8,000 to PKR 15,000, depending on the manufacturer and specifications. Similarly, the price of a 100-meter long multimode fiber optic cable ranges from PKR 6,000 to PKR 10,000. The prices of armored and unarmored fiber optic cables are also different, with armored cables costing more due to the additional layer of protection they provide against physical damage.
Litech Pakistan also offers fiber optic patch cords, connectors, adapters, and other accessories, which are essential for connecting fiber optic cables to network devices. The prices of these accessories vary depending on their type and specifications.
It is important to note that the prices mentioned above are indicative and subject to change based on market conditions and other factors. Customers are advised to contact Litech Pakistan for the latest prices and information on fiber optic cables and accessories.
In conclusion, fiber optic cables have become an essential component of the telecommunication infrastructure in Pakistan. 2023.03.21 05:10 tetractys_gnosys Car's tape deck only works when really warm. Why?

Howdy, fellow meat bags. I have an older car that has no aux input so I use a cassette adapter in the tape deck. Thanks to this sub and some beautiful people, I was able to fix and upgrade my cassette adapter yesterday. Now that I'm emboldened by success, m wondering if anyone had any ideas about why my trailer deck would be jank as hell only when it's below roughly 75 degrees Fahrenheit.
When I first get into the car it will just constantly go rewind fast forward rewind fast forward and be utterly unusable. The sound still works but it keeps stopping the audio to change directions. I figured out it didn't like being cold and duct taped two USB carbon fiber heating pads to the bottom of the unit and leave them plugged into the 12v plugs. That way, as soon as I star the car they start to get to operating temps.
Damnedest thing I ever did see, tell ya h'wat. Is this a known property of tape decks? Is there a common mechanism related to tracking that I could repaireplace? Why does it not like the cold but as soon as it warms up it is golden?
Thants and I hope everyone is having a marvelous evening or Thursday, whatever the case may be.

2023.03.21 04:02 Smirkydarkdude Touring around Arizona in an EV

Touring around Arizona in an EV
I thought I'd post a bit of info about touring Arizona in an EV (Electric Vehicle). If that's not something you are interested in, feel free to skip this post (it's long).
I drove through a brutal blizzard last fall from Canada to our winter place in Scottsdale. I love touring around your beautiful state. Honestly Arizona is the nicest place on earth. But before I came down in the fall I was wondering how hard it would be to tour around in an EV?
Since I arrived in November, I've been to Sedona and I have a nice little Jet Boat I've taken to Lake Saguaro and Canyon lake. Lots of little day trips.
Earlier trip to Saguaro Lake towing my little jet boat
First off, I don't have a Tesla. I have an (arguably) more modern and more advanced vehicle - the Hyundai Ioniq 5.
But the car is just half the battle for a road trip. You also need a charging network or you won't get very far. Non-Tesla's like mine use CCS charging. Teslas have their own adapter. Tesla's charging network is 2nd to none. Us non-Tesla owners can still expect a bit of drama on long road trips. But it's improving. So today I thought I'd do another short road trip, see the sights and check out a charger or two along the way.
Fully charged my Ioniq 5 can travel roughly 260 - 280 miles. I wasn't fully charged but today's trip was to the Boyce Thompson Arboretum then off to Superior, Globe and back home. That's only about 170 miles round trip so worst case even without a charge on the road I'd be fine.
The Arboretum was packed today! They were having a wedding and there were a lot of visitors but all in all the trails weren't too bad. Lots of tourist destinations will have an EV charger. The Desert Botanical Gardens in Phoenix for example. But sadly the Arboretum doesn't have one.
https://preview.redd.it/tcrim7alpzoa1.jpg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f39d2776396be42648a114042f5e068e41758fc6
The scenery is spectacular. Maybe you guys are used to views like this but to a seasonal visitor... Wow. Just. Wow. Mind blowingly beautiful.
https://preview.redd.it/1ze029alpzoa1.jpg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aff0bc1cc12d06303d7c15f8228d858a4e60a4d8
After our visit at the Arboretum we decided to check out the town of Superior. The town is a bit economically depressed but there is a fairly huge copper mine in the nearby mountains. We met a fellow in town who told us the mine is about to be greatly expanded so maybe a boom on the horizon?
We drove through the "historic downtown". We found 4 Tesla brand destination (low power 11kw) chargers that had both a standard J1772 plug and a Tesla connector. We didn't need the charge - I was still at 60% giving me about 170 miles left in the tank - but hey... it was free. Would you turn down a gallon of free gas? Plus I was curious to see if I could hook my Hyundai up to a Tesla charger.
This pic was taken outside the mining museum. Unfortunately the museum was closed. The restrooms were locked. Almost all the businesses were closed. We did find a shop and bought a very nice peanut butter cookie but have to say this place will need to up it's game if it wants to attract tourists. While we were wandering we only added 15 miles of range but hey... free, right?
https://preview.redd.it/8zsaxk8oqzoa1.jpg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=926d246ad1e4b163ee2fbb4bc35b7662edff05b5
Next it was off to Globe. We drove through the Queen Creek tunnel and saw some spectacular scenery. I didn't have a chance to take any pics so I'll just steal this one from ADOT.

https://preview.redd.it/yrspokt3szoa1.jpg?width=600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=317d3795b000a5acc44ee20ce0511652872bb3ff
Going up hill through the mountains ate up a lot of battery. Although home was still easily within range I thought I might as well check out the new APS chargers. They are actually just Electrify America charges in an APS box. They worked fine and within a few minutes were were tanked back up.
https://preview.redd.it/kf1k1atotzoa1.jpg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=28bb4b9ae8fa8b774ef4f8d533ff848e89b5cd26
We toured around the downtown area, saw a few sights. Before heading back on the road we pulled out our coffee station and made a couple mugs of coffee and got a bowl of water for the pups. (My model has a 120V plug.)
https://preview.redd.it/4iaaxnqz30pa1.jpg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2311dce2e5b21a72ce9c1e89ebda5e4c0287b4df
A 120V plug is not unique to EVs but my car has a few tricks up it's sleeve. It can act as a home battery backup system during a power outage. The Ford Lightning also has "Vehicle to Load" as it's known. So do a few other EVs but this is a trick Tesla hasn't learned yet. The 77kw of power in my main battery are about the same as 6 Tesla powerwalls. It won't run your AC system but an electrician can hook up a generator sub panel and you can use your Ioniq 5 to keep the freezer from melting and keep a few lights on.
On the way back, I set my "Regen" to auto and allowed the car to recharge the battery as we rolled down a 7% grade back into the valley. This is the great thing about EV's - they drop a lot of power going up hill but pick up a lot of it going back down.
https://preview.redd.it/xuevi07fc0pa1.jpg?width=2435&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=79976f69e37aca3b370a5cd259917d41fabbd9a2
When we got home we plugged in to fill up. I have a Shell Recharge charger. Nice to see some of the oil and gas companies getting into the EV game.
https://preview.redd.it/u3tnlftp70pa1.jpg?width=2252&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aa6edafd707367938a49f61e9776161274319415
A bit about cost and efficiency. When you are on the road charging at high speed chargers you won't save a fortune. Electrify America charges $0.43/kw ($0.36 if you have a $4 membership). Weirdly today's charge was free. That happened last time in Sedona too. Maybe APS is doing some tests or handing out free gas? No idea. But today I added 24kw in Globe which would take my car about 92 miles and it should have cost me about $10.
I get an average of 4 miles per kw (I hear Teslas are slightly more efficient at about 5 miles/kw). So if you drive 40 miles a day you will run through a 77kw EV tank in about a week. If you are with APS and charge up off-peak the cost is about 12 cents per kw. That will run you about $9.50 per week. If you can fill up during the week from 10am to 3pm (during the winter) the rate drops to $0.03 cents or about $2.31/week. Home charging is where you save the big bucks.
Summary:
Today was an entirely non-eventful trip. It's nice to see the EV infrastructure being built out. Touring around Arizona has become so much easier now that APS has stepped up. New chargers in Show Low, Globe, Sedona, Payson and Prescott make these day trips much easier in an EV. Which of course brings tourists and tourist dollars.

2023.03.21 03:56 Actual-Corner-9519 Proud to own a 10th gen!!

I was thinking today about how happy I am with my 2019 Accord 2.0T. I bought it a few years ago when it was new. Not only do I love the driving characteristics (sharp handling, one of the most intuitive throttle pedals I've ever felt, instant torque and speed, ride quality that just glides over bumps)...but I also feel like the 10th gen Accord 2.0T is one of the last "classic" cars we'll get. It's a spacious and roomy sedan, it has a performance-oriented gas powertrain, it has regular door handles that don't pop out or are weird to operate, it has a normal key fob, and the driving experience is surprisingly analog for a modern car.
The Accord has all the convenience features you could ask for in a modern car (auto LED headlights, remote start, backup camera, bluetooth, car play, adaptive cruise, sport mode, partial LCD gauges, etc) but none of the insane shit that comes in cars today like the aggressive safety nannies, cameras on every inch of the car, crazy infotainment menus even for basic features in the car, electronic door poppers and releases that could easily break, weird headlight "dances", giant glass panels that cost a fortune if they get cracked, batteries that need charging, and overall all the distracting useless tech. I love how the 10th gen Accord hits that sweet spot, like it combines the nice simplicity and ease of ownership that older cars have, with the right features we appreciate about modern cars without complicating things too much. Like I said, I feel like it's one of the last sort of "classic" cars we'll get in those respects which is why I'm grateful to own one.

2023.03.21 03:48 E_c115 Question about arc adaptive sync

Hey everyone so I'm a little confused about adaptive sync and the control panels do I need to use Intel command center? If I try to switch off adaptive sync via control center if I exit and reopen it just switch it back on. If I don't have command center installed adaptive sync still works. I guess my main question is how would I use adaptive sync properly and do I need command center thanks!

2023.03.21 02:17 supers4 Asus tuf 4070ti and seasonic focus 750

Which cable and/or adapter would you all suggest? I'd prefer a 16 to 16pin but its not required. My main concern is whether I need a 90degree adapter. Website says I'd need 4 to 4.5cm of space and I measure about 4.3cm from edge of port to edge of side panel.
So I suspect a 90 degree adapter might be required or preferred to ensure optimal space as well as aesthetics. Any preference or difference between cooler side and backplate side? Case is a Lancool 215.
Thanks in advance.

2023.03.21 00:36 amazingcorn9 I'm trying to diagnose myself - fatigue and brainfog

I don't know if I have leaky gut and that's exactly why I'm here. For over a year now I've been dealing with debilitating fatigue and brainfog that gets worse after some meals, often bigger ones. I'm also bloated and easily constipated.
Before all of this i used to have a really bad diet and eating habits eating either fast foods or some days barely eating anything. Constipation was normal.
In the past year I did lots of tests including multiple blood panels, colonoscopy, enterography and stool tests etc. and nothing. First sibo test was negative, second a few months later was barely positive.
Low FODMAP diet made me worse, more constipated, more fatigued and foggy. Rifaximin did nothing at all. Later Rifaximin + Neomycin made me more fatigued/foggy.
I did notice that a high fiber diet with lots of oatmeal definitely helps lower my fatigue and brainfog. I often do feel better after going to the toilet and with that diet its definitely more frequent. Some herbal antimicrobials also helped a few times.
Could all of this be due to a leaky gut?

2023.03.21 00:29 theprizefight Daily Fios Internet outages - usually this event in router logs: [SYS.4][SYS] no servers found in /etc/resolv.conf, will retry

We moved into a new house mid-last year and got gigabit internet-only Fios. For a while it worked fine. Then several months ago we started randomly losing Internet. It seemed to most often happen midday.
Initially Verizon said it could be my equipment causing the issue, but I doubted that given my router logs said WAN connectivity lost each time it happened.
But I decided to ditch my old router anyway since I wanted to upgrade, and figured I'd give the new Fios router a shot. So I switched to only using the CR1000A + 1 satellite hardwired to router via coax. But it continued happening.
Whenever internet dropped I saw this in the router logs: [SYS.4][SYS] no servers found in /etc/resolv.conf, will retry
Verizon support sent a tech onsite. He replaced the router and its AC adapter, the ONC, the ONC power supply, and fiber to the router, plus maybe even something outside. Since we couldn't replicate the problem while onsite, he left and I was hopeful all the hardware swaps might fix it. But it did not
It's months later and it still happens, sometimes multiple times a day, and almost always seems to drop coinciding with that log event.
Usually a reboot of the router fixes it (I'm often able to access router admin interface over the LAN to reboot it). But occasionally it takes two reboots, and/or running the Fios troubleshooter on the mobile app
I really don't feel like calling support yet again only to wait, be put on hold, transferred, and ultimately asked a bunch of questions I've already been asked at least twice. I just dread having to keep troubleshooting this to the point where I'm actually considering just switching to Comcast, one of the worst corporations on planet earth
Anyone know why this might be happening, or whether there's any way I can fix this myself, or find the right tech at Verizon who can actually help?
Thanks in advance

2023.03.21 00:14 lokknoh ASR9006 - A9K-2X100GE-SE CFP - 10Ge breakout

We have a need to break out this network module into 10x10Ge single mode fiber connections but Im finding I may not be able to do this. I do see where we can do it with a multimode CFP adapter but I don't see an option for Single mode. Am I missing something here?

We've got a CFP-100G-LR4 installed in the router now. Is anyone aware of any options here to get this going? All I see is SR option for the MPO/MTP connection which this CFP module cant do.

2023.03.20 21:46 th3bigfatj Difficulty introducing older adopted cat into household

We're having a lot of trouble getting a new cat (10 year old male, neutered) to be around our previous cat (5 year old male, neutered). I have (and my wife has) done a fair bit of reading about how to get these two cats to adapt to each other.
The original 5 year old cat is about twice as big as the new cat, but that doesn't stop the older, adopted cat from attacking the original cat. They've had three cat fights, all three resulted in the original cat running away and loosing a great deal of fur.
Fortunately, neither cat has been injured. The stronger cat hasn't been very aggressive, although he does hiss a lot. His fur coat is very thick as well compared to the new cat which is a fur-less conrish rex.
We've been working on this for about a month, and there's a lot of juggling the household - the adopted cat spends nights in the master bedroom and the original cat is periodically limited to the guest room, especially if he goes in there to take a nap anyway.
If one of us can watch at least one cat closely, we'll let them both wander the house. but they tend to gravitate toward each other and the adopted cat has a way of running toward the original cat that I've identified, so i can scoop him up to head off a fight if i'm ready for it.
The master bedroom door has around a 1" gap between the hardwood floor and the bottom of the door. The cats can sort of see each other and sniff each other, but will sometimes hiss and hand fight under the door attempting to hit each other in the face if possible (while the other cat's face is against the floor to look under the door).
We try to keep their claws as trimmed as possible.
Both cats have been recently been to the vet and are fully healthy. We even did a full blood panel on the adopted cat after adopting him.
in some ways, we've made progress. The original cat would initially hiss at us when we smelled like the other cat. I think it was 100% an uncontrolled reaction. He's past that, mostly. But he has been attacked 3 times and he's very nervous about the other cat.
We have tried things to encourage them to be near each other (cat grass by the master bedroom door, feeding on the other side of the door). We show both cats that we hold and pet the other cat and we give both cats plenty of attention.
We're really hoping the older cat we just adopted can stay in hour household. His breed typically only lives 12-15 years so he might not even have many years left in him.
If you've read this all, thank you. And let me know if you have any ideas :)

2023.03.20 21:22 PrepperandBlondie What's Coming

What's Coming

Earthquakes, Tsunamis, Longer lasting and fiercer hurricanes, Possible banking crisis v.2, Yellowstone blowing its top, Global freshwater demand exceeding supply by 2030, Over-fishing the oceans, Dead zones in the sea, Fertilizer supply issues, The giant blob of seaweed, Climate change, Solar flares, Climate wars, CO2 levels, New diseases, Permafrost melting, Sea level rise, Drought, Heat waves, Resource scarcity, WW3, Deadpool dams, Electricity scarcity, Bees dying off, Rivers drying up, Global commerce in chaos, Microplastics everywhere, Energy wars, Melting of polar ice caps, Deforestation, Soil erosion, Land degradation, Invasive species, Acidification of oceans, Food insecurity, Cyber attacks, Mass extinction of species, Nuclear accidents, Water pollution, Air pollution, Geopolitical instability, Refugee crisis, Terrorism, Economic inequality, Artificial intelligence, Antibiotic resistance, Mental health crisis, Obesity epidemic, Aging population, Political polarization, and Biodiversity loss, on and on it goes…
Well, that’s quite the list! Meanwhile, life goes on one day at a time. I have bought my prepper gear, extra food, water, medical supplies, heritage seeds, solar panels, and a stock of firewood. My preps are not perfect, but there’s not much more I am willing to do. At some point, I felt it was enough. And I don’t spend any time worrying.
As a kid, I grew up in Mexico and Puerto Rico in the 1950s. It was very third-world there at that time. Horse and donkey carts were everywhere. We had a water heater that required you to build a fire with twigs in its combustion chamber. We used kerosene lamps. I have slept in hammocks and hidden in holes in the ground as hurricanes threatened. As an adult, I have homesteaded land, built a cabin from scratch (even milled the wood myself), gotten water from a spring, and lived off-grid. I learned that candles are costly if you need to use them for daily light. But my message for you is that it still works. It’s comfortable enough. Our ability to adapt is quite robust. So get some supplies and gear, and then relax and have fun. Whatever will come our way will include horrible, incredible, love, fear, and surprises, just like now.
The items on this website list what I bought after the Almeda fire had me evacuated from my modern rural home without notice, and I had to live without home, power, food, or propane for a week. I was not prepared. So I searched the internet, read, watched videos, and bought all the items that I felt would keep my family alive and well.
The items were not chosen because they are the best of the best; they were selected because of size, weight, usefulness, price point, and portability. An example is the fishing gear kit. It is small, fits in my duffel bag, and is cheap enough that I bought it and have it. As they say, the best gear is the gear you have. I did not buy a great rod and reel; I bought a fishing kit that’s well-reviewed and is in my car trunk now. All my gear is portable. I may need to flee (another fire?), so the gear needs to go with me. On the other hand, perhaps I have to hunker down at home. The gear is at home because it is in my car trunk. Not everything is in my trunk. I have a list of items to grab from the house. Some items are seasonal. How much notice does one have if one has to leave? It’s all a compromise. Be prepared, and forget about it.
If the rest of my life passes uneventfully, my gear will be passed to my now adult children. They will undoubtedly encounter the brunt of “What’s Coming” and find my legacy to them helpful.

2023.03.20 19:45 heavenpunch MK3 is stuck on "production and Performance System"

Hi,
This question has been posted before on Reddit. However none of the solutions have done anything for me.
The MK3 worked perfectly before.
I have the latest firmware, as well as the latest drivers installed. And re-installed. It's running of the AC-adapter, and is connected via the original USB cable directly into the PC. Maschine 2 software re-installed, updated, and running in admin mode. All NI background programs like device helper etc. are running. When I open the NI Maschine MK3 Control Panel, it says the MK3 interface is connected, no errors. In Windows the MK3 can be selected as an audio device no issues.
Hell, in the Maschine software I can use the MK3 audio in and outputs. However, it can just not be selected as the Maschine device. Neither does it show up in the Controller editor.
I get no error messages, it just doesn't work.
I've exhausted every solution I could find on the NI website, as well as any forum I could find. Every software related item was re-installed. All cables were disconnected and connected again.
Any suggestions as to even troubleshoot were the issue lies?
Thanks in advance
