I think the best defence we can take today, is only use Alias'es and on Public WIFI. This way, the government can't prove we visit site A or encrypted message B, for example.

My "brother," who I'll name Stanger, because that's all he's been all my life, is a jerk with a short fuse. All my life my family lived in fear of him, he attempted to choke my other older brother, who I'll name Bland, when we were just kids. I admire my moms dedication to her kids, but sometimes it gets annoying. Now he's somewhere in his thirty's, I lost count after that, has a wife and several cats and dogs, has a somewhat stable job, and his own house, yet he still sleeps in our house, eats our food that our mom buys for him and cooks for him. And if she doesn't he'll cook and burn the pan, then leaves it for either me or my mom to clean. He also leaves a mess everywhere in the house, leaving me and mom to clean it up. His "room" is also my dad's office that he has leave as soon as Stranger gets home so he can sleep.
Recently, stranger accused my parents of killing him because ge was "sick," he wasn't, unless he was talking about mentally, then in that case, yes, he is sick. Anyways, that fight was a week ago from today, and now I'm away from home on a spring break vacation to one of my last relatives on my moms side with my mom. My dad stayed home since travel to where I am was expensive. Today is technically my brother's birthday, we're Hispanic so we celebrate at 12, and I refused to sing happy birthday with the others over video call. I just stood in the view of the camera and played on my phone. Then when the singing was over I went to the room me and my mom are staying in for the time being. My mom came in and told me to say happy birthday to him, I stayed silent and she repeated herself, so I said it weakly while looking at my phone, still not over how he acts. I know she's telling me to do this so we can pretend to be a happy family in front of my remaining relatives, but I don't lie about these things, ever. I hate pretending, it makes me sick, the only time I pretend is in front of my mom when I'm feeling extra "sad". My parents are real old school and "don't believe in mental health issues". I know it's bad to self diagnose, but if you're one of my friends, you know how bad my depression is. And becuase of my parents beliefs, I can never get diagnosed officially.
Anyways, so because i didn't say a proper happy birthday to Stranger, my mom got mad at me and said "when I tell you to do something, you do it" and my depression got worse and I wanted to cry. However, that's another thing I can't do in front of her, she thinks you should only cry for physical pain, so when she told me to change and go to bed, I immediately grabbed my pj's and went to the bathroom to cry. Infact, I'm currently crying in the bathroom again while writing this. I love my parents, and there's nothing my mom can do to make me hate her, but Stranger? I'd rather die then say "I love you" to him, I hate him. My mom told me to never say "hate" when referring to her, which I could never do, my dad, who's been neglectful of me until it came to getting into college and driving, Bland, who I'm actually pretty ok with, he makes mistakes every once in while, but most of the time hes just voicing what i also think but am to scared to say, and Stranger, who I'm sure you know by now that I can't stand. However, I don't care, I hate him, I hate him so much, I'll never wish death on anyone, but if my depression ever gets to the point where the thoughts take me, I'm putting his full name in big bold letters under reasons for death.

I don’t want to sound ungrateful. My mom did 85% of the planning and paid for our 40 person shower at a restaurant (my husband has a big family). She was stressed trying to make it a beautiful celebration, and it was.

Everything was OK I think until we started opening gifts. While I am opening presents and thanking people, my mother starts sobbing at the table. Her family and friends whoosh in to comfort her and keep her calm. I have no idea what to do, so I just keep acting as if everything is fine and continue talking to and thanking people whose gifts I am opening.
Eventually someone pulls up a chair and seats my mother next to me for pictures. I can smell the liquor on her, she is still crying, and starts leaning into me. Everyone is watching. I feel uncomfortable, embarrassed, and honestly a little annoyed. She looks visibly upset/drunk in the pictures I’ve seen. The rest of the shower is uneventful. I socialize with guests, thank everyone again, helped with clean up. A friend drove my mother home.
