2023.03.21 08:56 Naar-kanger Chattisinghpora massacre of Sikhs, Pathribal fake encounter & Brakpora firing - three incidents that shook Kashmir in a fortnight in the spring of 2000. Yet justice eludes all the victims. WHY?

In March 2000, US President was scheduled to visit India. A day before his visit, gunmen wearing army uniforms appeared in Chattisinghpora hamlet of South Kashmir inhabited by Sikhs and dragged them from their homes. In a few moments, 35 Sikhs were murdered in cold blood. Government of India quickly pinned the blame on militants while US President chose to keep mum over the issue in India.
Five days later on 25 March, Indian Army claimed to have killed 5 militants responsible for the massacre in a fierce gunbattle. This was just few hours before LK Advani's visit to Kashmir in aftermath of the massacre, who later met the army officers involved in operation and announced heavy cash rewards for them.
But cracks in the official account soon emerged. Five men had been picked up by Army during raids from villages Brarianagan and Halan in the neighbourhood and Anantnag town between 21 and 25 March. Further cracks unfolded when villagers of Panchalthan talked about the mysterious circumstances in which these five men were killed on Zontengri peak. Contrary to the government claim that there was a five-hour-long gun battle, the villagers had said that these men were killed in cold blood and was passed off as an encounter. Suspicion of foul play was further strengthened by the way the five men had been buried. The army and police officers involved in the ‘‘operation’’ had sought the help of local villagers to speed up the burial.
People including relatives started protesting and demanded whereabouts of the five men. On 3 April 2000, villagers marched towards deputy commissioner’s office. At Brakpora police and CRPF opened fire killing 9 people. Some of the killed protesters were close relatives of the five missing villagers.
When things heated up, government started an investigation. After DNA sampling and investigation, it was revealed that the 5 men murdered and labeled terrorists were actually villagers who had been picked up by Army few days ago. The then Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anantnag acknowledged that Pathribal encounter was fake on 9 April 2001.
In January 2003, Pathribal fake encounter case was handed over to CBI. It noted, "Col Ajay Saxena, then Major B P Singh, Major Sourabh Sharma, Subedar Idrees Khan and other personnel of 7RR hatched a criminal conspiracy to pick up some innocent persons and stage-manage an encounter to create an impression that the militants responsible for the Chhittisinghpora killings had been neutralised." On 19 March 2012, The CBI told the Supreme Court of India that the fake encounter at Pathribal in Jammu and Kashmir 12 years ago "were cold-blooded murders and the accused officials deserve to be meted out exemplary punishment." On 23 January 2014, the Indian Army closed this case saying evidence collected by it did not establish a prima facie case against any of the accused.
There is a strong view within Kashmir that the justice in Pathribal and Brakpora cases are scuttled only because nobody wants the lid off the truth of Chittisinghpora, where the identity of the perpetrators of that massacre is still inconclusive.
Between 20 March and 3 April of that year, around 50 people lost their lives in the triple incidents.
JUSTICE ELUDES THEM TO THIS DAY.

2023.03.21 08:48 Artistic_Telephone16 Follow up to parents who won't hand over birth certificate to adult child

Apparenyly I have been reported and blocked from further comments on the original thread. 🤷‍♀️
The same government office which handles birth records usually handles death records. They issue certified copies to interested parties.
It begs the question, who owns a death certificate How does a dead person own their death certificate that typically isn't issued until after the body has been laid to rest or cremated?
Answer: the dead person doesn't own the death certificate. The executor of the deceased person's estate obtains a copy from the state and is granted power of attorney by a court in order to settle the deceased person's business affairs, either driven by a valid will, or via established rules of distribution if the person dies intestate (without a will). The death certificate is a legal record of an event, that offers validated proof said event happened, the power of attorney grants the executor the ability to act on the dead person's behalf. BOTH are usually necessary to settle accounts and sell the deceased person's property or change deeds to those who inherit the deceased's property.
Property is defined this way (personal, not real property): Personal property can be acquired for ownership through production, purchase, or gift or, in certain circumstances, by finding it.[may vary slightly from state to state]
This is the basis of the phrase, "possession is 9/10 of the law." In the absence of a receipt showing purchase, then found or gift could be claimed, but the receipt showing purchase kinda serves as a trump card.
The child hasn't done any of these with respect to his/her birth certificate. The parents however, did pay a fee to obtain it. Paying the fee us most closely aligned with PURCHASE.
Just because the event is a child's birth doesn't make the physical piece of paper the personal property of the child named in the document. Truth : the parents are ALSO named in that document, the proof they are the child's legal guardians - useful for registering a child for school, assisting the child in getting a driver's license, a passport, or using it in conjunction to identify their child in the absence of a government issued ID or obtain government benefits.
What if great Aunt Judy who is 80 years old contacts the state and requests a certified copy of a birth certificate for her genealogy research? If a child's name/birth event is on it, according to the court of public opinion logic, it belongs to the child, not the one who paid the fee to obtain the certified copy of the instrument. So yeah, Let's sue Aunt Judy for documenting the family tree!! [Absurd!]
It is not automatically the child's property anymore than the furniture in the parent's home. It certainly NOT worth the level of hostility toward parents because they won't hand it over, as that is a purely emotional argument, NOT a legal one. [Hence the suggestion to understand Case/common law.] Litigation will reform one's thoughts on right/wrong when you read the legal arguments from appeals processes. Oftentimes in civil cases, BOTH litigants have valid legal arguments - then what? The judge seeks to find BALANCE (and the outcome is not acceptable to either party).
I am saying from a legal perspective - as someone who has spent three years in litigation and been threatened with real and personal property litigation in an inheritance situation, and been impacted by a spouse in bankruptcy litigation, the advice which was being given (cops, lawyers, suing), while validating to the original author, is largely FALSE - that the child has some legal claim to his/her birth certificate in his/her parents possession. Pursuing those options is far more costly from a time and money perspective than ponying up for a new certified copy. And if you were to choose those options over just getting a new certified copy, brace yourself for becoming the target of a judge's wrath for wasting the court's time and resources.
Embarrassment isn't abuse. If that's the case, we all abuse ourselves the worst.
My intentional overuse of the word PERHAPS was to establish there may be another perspective not yet considered, not because I am saying it is absolutely the OP's parents' perspective (I have no idea, so please don't read too much into it). But yeah, I'd love to hear THEIR side....because I have heard similar accusations because I have boundaries, which means I accept the risk of no contact when I do say "boundary crossed.... we're done here." That's what boundaries are all about, knowing where your line in the sand is drawn and being willing to act on it, even in the event the emotional abuser threatens no contact. [My door is open, but under the realistic expectation I won't stand for emotional abuse and gaslighting me with amateur psychology after I've spent thousands on therapy and perhaps over-questioned mybown Psychology PhD sibling about concepts.]
AND if anyone has a claim to our kid's birth certificate, it is her Dad (where I got it the day she turned 18 to get the driver's license he wouldn't support her getting because he knew once we gave her a car, he'd lose control, and he did, because I educated HER about her legal rights as an adult - that even though she hadn't yet graduated from HS, she was no longer subjected to a divorce decree's visitation schedule as Dad wanted her to believe - verified by a family law attorney). Said birth certificate has lived in our fireproof safe ever since, at HER request because she didn't want to misplace it.
It's technically Dad's, not hers. He hasn't asked for it back, and she was rude AF about it, using the false logic it is HER property, and the emotional abuse was all about "Dad says this about you", "Dad says that about you." Dad doesn't know a blessed thing about me 16 years after I left except her gossip (same gossip she used to get into our house until she figured out we had rules, too, and wouldn't be manipulated either). He's not exactly my bestie, and we are divorced for a reason. Doesn't mean I have to give in to a$$holery.
Funny how when parents behave toward their kids like the kids behave toward their parents - when they have no legal standing to do so - the parents are ALWAYS the a$$holes.
I'm not saying there aren't entitled parents, like the most recent thread I saw about a woman yanking a mask off another person's face for her kid, but when our kids think they can yank OUR things (like earnings) when they are adults and frustrated with the uphill climb to earn their own, WE are the a$$holes? I used to think the same, until I saw how the courts perceive these things, and realized none of our individual perceptions of right/wrong apply.
My bank account showing $25k of support over a 2.5 year period after HS graduation and divorce decree/child support expiration says otherwise about my willingness to support my kid. I do NOT have to continue to support an ungrateful brat whose average job tenure is at/around 3-4 months and decides she no longer wants to work (that was the deal - she keeps a job while going to school).
Feelings are physical responses to external stimuli - not necessarily facts or evidence. You can retrain yourself - through grounding exercises, to respond without the emotion that comes with reaction, and oftentimes, kids push that limit too far thinking parents should love them unconditionally, even beyond their monetary means. We can love our kids, even when we can't stand them for being immature humans. But we can't fabricate money we do not have.
Live well, people. And know when you have boundaries and are true to yourself, people will not like it, call you names, and tell you how awful you are. Did I give ample warning the outcome was a possibility (that the mostly free ride could end if the boundaries set weren't honored? Yep. Twice, and I let her return. Third time? No. 🤷‍♀️
No contact is indeed an option, but not usually one you want to exercise until you've spent years in therapy considering all the other options. It CAN be freeing, but it can also become a much larger burden of grief and eliminate a child unnecessarily from a generational worth situation (where you get say, $10, and your siblings gets the rest of your parents million dollar estate - my step-dad did this to one of his kids who went no contact ...even though he died in the late 90s, his kids are still in my Mom's will....except the no contact kid). The less of an estate or more kids can boil it down to "is $X thousand or million dollars if an inheritance WORTH this torture?" For those children who have grown into middle age, have kids and/or have done well for themselves, perhaps cutting off mom/Dad makes sense. For those sporting the label of adult who perhaps lack life experiende, I would recommend not making a hasty no contact decision (and when our daughter moved in with us I encouraged her to NOT do that to her Dad, but he encourages her to do that to me... he also struggled with respecting boundaries , so, no surprise our kid doesn't). It has become a real eye-opener to communicate boundaries and figure out who respects them, and who seeks to leverage them to manipulate me!
Every young person has to figure this out as an adult, just as we did. And until a young person understands juggling all the balls of jobs, bills, home ownership and kids, s/he is in no position to judge.
Heal by understanding that childhood trauma isn't about playing a blame game, but understanding the weaknesses in your own communication and coping skills, to give your inner child the skills your parents didn't possess to teach you (it wasn't their fault either!), or maybe they tried, but you tuned them out for a screen (we have seen this a LOT amongst our peers with kids - if it doesn't come from the screen, it is worthless).
Parents have to choose to work on their own self-improvement, and will always have the same pressure points where you will see their worst when backed into a corner with no good options. It doesn't make them horrible, but oh so very human, just like you.

2023.03.21 08:36 leaveacomentimlonely Can Green P plater legally have locked iPhone in mount showing navigation?

I was recently pulled over for having navigation showing on my locked iPhone. I was not touching my phone and I have lost my license for this offence. I am losing my job and housing due to this law I (and everyone I’ve ever spoken to) never knew existed. I’ve spoken to two police officers that I personally know who have firmly suggested taking this to court, however I can not afford to do so, and have a previous speeding fine (6kms over) that won’t be in my favour.
Has anyone else been fined for this before? Anyone have any advice?
Edit: this happened in New South Wales.

2023.03.21 08:32 Unfair-Spring9796 MIL overstayed her visit, claimed residency in CA

she did not have no where to go so we agreed to her staying for 1 month.. after 1 month she showed no signs of leaving, even quit her job. Not paying rent/bills. We asked her to leave she took it as a joke so we gave her a courtesy letter & she quickly called the police claiming residency. Told us we had to take it to court etc.. we had gotten into an argument then called the police again and stated false allegations all found to be untrue. Then called my landlord threatening to put her on the lease. The next day we all received a 3 day notice to leave or quit, she didn’t leave so they gave us another 3 day notice.. still did not leave. So now we are all being sued. We have asked her to leave even tried changing the locks & unfortunately police said she was still a resident even tho me and my husband are at risk w losing the house with 2 babies & 1 on the way. She is still there locked in her room refusing to leave. I cannot afford a lawyer what can I do?

2023.03.21 08:17 asteroidredirect Information on filing civil claims and criminal misconduct in Shambhala

Colorado currently has a three-year “window” that has opened to allow victims of sexual abuse to file civil claims against an abuser, as well as an organization, for sexual abuse of a minor that occurred since 1960. Claims must be filed before January 1st, 2025. The previous statute of limitations (SOL) was six years after the minor turned eighteen. Going forward there will be no SOL. There is already no SOL for criminal charges for sexual abuse of minors in CO.
For adult victims, Colorado eliminated the SOL for filing civil claims for sexual assault, and gave a six year extension to anyone who was still within the previous law's six year SOL. RAINN has a tool on their website for looking up criminal statute of limitations for sex crimes by state.
Vermont took it the furthest by permanently eliminating the past and future SOL for child sexual abuse lawsuits, including being able to sue an organization that has enabled or hidden abuse. The retroactive aspect of the law is being challenged in the Vermont Supreme Court. The ruling may set a precedent for the rest of the country. VT also removed the SOL for criminal charges starting at the time of the new law. Furthermore, they changed the SOL for sexual exploitation of a vulnerable adult, typically defined as an elderly person or someone with a developmental disability. There is no criminal SOL for sexual assault.
Other states have passed look back windows for civil claims, some only against the perpetrator. New York has opened a look back window for adult victims that will close in November 2023. The traditional reason for statute of limitations laws is that evidence is harder to come by over time and memory fades. However, it is now being recognized that victims of sexual abuse can take many years to be ready to face the abuser or even understand that they were abused. Criminal SOLs are usually longer than SOLs for civil claims.
There have been four criminal investigations by law enforcement involving Shambhala. One was by the Vermont State Police investigating sexual abuse of a minor. Public records of that investigation can be accessed by request. They did not bring charges against the alleged perpetrator because the criminal statute of limitations had expired. A lawsuit against the abuser and the Shambhala organization has been filed. That was made possible due to the changes in Vermont law, but Shambhala is challenging the new law as mentioned above.
Another investigation was by the Larimer County Sheriff's Office (the LCSO) in Colorado. The public records of that investigation were posted in this sub awhile ago. It was a broad investigation of a number of allegations against various people, including underage sexual abuse by Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche. No charges were filed. At least one case was beyond the statute of limitations. Two cases mentioned in their report, the ones mentioned here from Vermont and Halifax, are outside of their jurisdiction.
The LCSO was unable to find anyone willing to come forward against Mipham. It was considered a blessing to sleep with the guru. Anyone speaking out would face ostracization from the community. That may have changed some now that the Sakyong lineage has parted ways with Shambhala. Survivors should never feel that the burden of ruining Shambhala is on them. Egregious misconduct by all three leaders of Shambhala in a row did that.
The other two criminal investigations were in Boulder, CO. They resulted in charges being filed, both for sexual abuse of a minor. The charges against Bill Karelis, a former Shambhala teacher, were dropped because the survivor declined to testify. The investigation was triggered because someone whom the survivor confided in reported it. The prosecutors wrote an op-ed in general support of a survivor's choice not to testify. It can be an unbearable burden.
Mike Smith, a member of Shambhala, pleaded guilty. His 20 year sentence, which included time already served, was recently resentenced to 10 years prison, 3 years parole, and 10 years probation. Shambhala knew about Smith's underage sexual abuse many years ago and encouraged therapy and a restorative justice approach. An investigation by a law firm hired by Shambhala in Colorado concluded that Shambhala did not discourage the survivor and her family from reporting to the police.
There have been two other investigations of Shambhala conducted by lawyers, plus a listening post. All of the reports they produced are available online. In some cases, the Shambhala organization knew about misconduct, including by the leader Sakyong Mipham. Calls for a truth and reconciliation process looking at the history of misconduct going back to the founder Chogyam Trungpa have been ignored. Recently, abuse by Trungpa has come to light. Shambhala has been through crisis before, notably with the HIV/AIDS scandal and sexual misconduct of the Regent Osel Tendzin (Tom Rich).
Shambhala hired An Olive Branch, who published the information they gathered from the listening post, minus people's names. They also made recommendations on changes in structure and policy for Shambhala, which were only partially implemented.
Buddhist Project Sunshine published three reports on misconduct. The investigator was Carol Merchasin, a lawyer with prior experience conducting investigations. She has investigated other Buddhist and yoga organizations since then.
Wickwire Holm, a Halifax based law firm, was hired by Shambhala to investigate claims following the BPS reports. Shambhala set the parameters so it was limited in scope. For example, they did not investigate the accusation against Sakyong Mipham of attempted rape in Chile.
Wickwire Holm found that Sakyong Mipham committed sexual misconduct. That included validating a claim, which was also in a BPS report, that happened in Halifax in 2011. Although it was not rape, it fits within the definition of sexual assault- non consensual sexual contact. There is no criminal statute of limitations for that. Most of Canada abolished SOLs for sexual assault. It varies by province as to whether the new act is retroactive.
There are now more options available for filing claims in civil court, but they won't necessarily last. There can be advantages to individual cases and advantages to a class action. Usually one files in the state where it happened, but there can be exceptions. Generally, law firms work on contingency, meaning they only get paid if you win. For a civil suit the burden of proof is "more likely than not", which is also the standard used for investigations by lawyers. Whereas criminal trials must prove "beyond a reasonable doubt".
Just to be clear, I'm not a lawyer and am not qualified to give legal advice. I gathered some of this information online, which is not always user friendly, clear in meaning, consistent, or accurate. Obviously, one should always consult a lawyer for sound legal advice. Usually consultations are free. If anyone has questions, I recommend contacting Carol Merchasin. She now works for the law firm that represented the plaintiff who sued the Karmapa. There are also other lawyers who handle these kinds of claims. While a settlement doesn't erase the pain, it can bring some measure of comfort.

2023.03.21 08:13 xtahse Likely fell for a rental scam...

I'm a WI resident. I'm a first-time renter, and saw a duplex that I was interested in. Back Office Central LLC is the name of the business. I got in touch with the lister, and completed the application process. I paid the fee and emailed all of my paperwork.
I set up a time to see the facility with an "agent for maintenance management." The unit appeared to be in good condition. Except from a hole in the wall, there were no significant problems. I inform the guy I'm interested in renting, and the company sends me the lease through email to sign using Docusign. I add my signature.
They now want me to pay the security deposit and 1st month's rent. They tell me I can pay by using "RentMoney." They email me a photo of something with their account number and tell me to bring it, (along with cash) in to a check cashing place and show the photo to store clerks. The clerks enter it into the system and tell me it processed.
That next day, they approve the lease and email me stating that I should ask the guy for the keys. I contacted him the same day and didn't get a response. Fast forward a few days later, I contact him again and still no response. I emailed the company today and they said they'll have him call me. He never did.
I'm getting worried now. I never in a million years imagined I'd be a victim of fraud. Yet, it appears that this is the case. Please don't condemn me either; this is my first time renting, so I had no idea what was typical and what wasn't. Does that business even exist?
Luckily they only got about $1500 from me, it could've been worse.

2023.03.21 07:57 TheTomlette A car wreck that isn't my fault is driving up my insurance

So this happened in TX in August 2021, which means the two year statute of limitations is this year. I think it'll be easier to break this up into two parts.
The event:
On a major highway in smallish town at around 10:30 at night, I was driving a white Chevy hybrid North as was an 18 wheeler. I was in the left lane, and he was in the right. I was traveling the speed limit of 55 mph. As we neared a crossover (put there because of a few businesses and a residential road to the west, directly across from this crossover [4 lane highway, 2 lanes south, 2 lanes north, and a median separating them - hence, crossover, which also had it's own turning lane]), I had just begun passing the 18 wheeler when he began an illegal left turn from the right lane. He did not even put on his blinker until he began turning.
At first, I thought he was switching lanes, so I decelerated. However, too late I realized he was turning, and that my only chance of escape was to make a hard turn left into the crossover as well, and hope he saw me in time to change direction. He didn't, and collided with my rear passenger door and did significant damage to the rear of the car. It ended up being totaled.
I am a brain injury survivor from a horse accident in 2013. I suffer from many symptoms due to this injury.... Including, but not limited to, seizures, disorientation, problems with balance, and stuttering. The stress of the situation brought on all of these symptoms and then some. To get me out of the car and to the ambulance, even with my cane that I keep with me, it took two emergency personnel on either side of me. Suffice to say, when asked what happened, I answered to the best of my ability, but my communication skills were highly compromised at the time.
After:
I hired an attorney literally the next day. It took the PD longer than expected with the report. When it came out, they ruled the accident both the truck driver's and my fault, saying that though I was not speeding, I still had failed to control my speed. Interestingly enough, in the report, the write up about the accident did not match the diagram, which my attorney noticed.
I also have a chronic neck injury from past injuries. The wreck aggravated it. I went to months of chiropractic care.
I spent a long time scared to drive, and longer scared to drive long distances. I would have mild panic attacks when I ended up at red lights next to a big rig. Never got treatment for that.
Eventually, my attorney made sure that both my insurance and their insurance paid out... But did not believe that my case was worth pursuing in court for his office.
Today:
I'm disabled because of the brain injury, which means I'm on a fixed income. Which means that because of all of this ordeal, my car insurance has gone up pretty noticeably. It's almost to a point that I can't afford to pay it. I lost a vehicle I had less than a year. My neck bothers me more than it ever has in my life. Driving is better... But I used to make my ends meet by doing rideshare or Door Dash, and I was Dashing for the first time in a long time when the wreck happened. I'm really, really reluctant to do it again even though I know I shouldn't be. And I still get anxious if I'm next to a couple of 18 wheelers for too long.
Do I still have a case? A case worth pursuing? Could I get the wreck off my record and get my insurance down?

2023.03.21 07:32 idkyouyet Honestly, F*** Everyone. (not everyone)

I was finally able to get my dad hospitalized, but he is being held in the psych intake holding area with 8 other people before our court date on Wednesday where we will go before a judge and I will petition for involuntary commitment. I am hoping the judge will rule in our favor and see he does need help.
I know not everyone is educated on bipolar disorder, mania or on many mental illnesses in general, but the lack of compassion and empathy or understanding I’ve seen for those who have BO and their loved ones is beyond me.
An officer drove my dad home from the restaurant he was found drinking and bothering customers at after he ran out of our house. My mom and I ran to the gate and blocked them in from entering. We both stood our ground and told the officer that my dad was not allowed in the house and that we wanted EMS to come. He kept telling us that because my dad lives here we couldn’t deny him access to the house. We told him what was going on, and he said, “Really? You’re not going to let him in in this state? He needs to sleep then.” WTF. If we are asking you to bring EMS and you see him in this state why the fuck are you trying to guilt trip us into letting him in. He would have never slept.
My mom and I are crying at this point, refusing to move because we are exhausted from no sleep and scared of his unpredictable behavior. Eventually he does call EMS, and 35 minutes later a fire truck appears and they hop out and ask us what’s going on. We are outside for about 15 minutes trying to explain to them that we don’t feel safe with him in the house and that he needs to be hospitalized because he has not been taking his medication. My mom and I both understand that if he refuses he does not have to go but I know that they can at least try to convince him. One of the firefighters tell us that we are not doing this the right way and that this is not the way to go about it. FUCKING ENLIGHTEN US THEN. They proceeded to tell us that they couldn’t really do anything about it. I really wish they had shown us some compassion. We had not slept and were so emotional and their responses were lacking all empathy. I was begging for a crisis team at this point. 5 minutes later EMS pulls up. One of the medics comes over to get info from us and we tell him that he’s diagnosed with BO and is manic not taking his meds and has been drinking and we didn’t feel safe with him in the house. She goes back over and literally 5 minutes later they convince my dad to get in their van.
I’m telling y’all this saved him from more financial pain and self medicating and death. With my entire being I know what would have happened. I’ve seen my dad in his first episode - full psychosis - EVERYTHING. He was going farther into a dark hole if we didn’t do something now. I’ve seen this played out before I was going to stop it before it got there again.
I understand that in general getting help for someone in mania is so extremely difficult, but having pushback by people who I thought would atleast try felt so heartbreaking. They made us feel so dumb for trying to get him help.
And today…
the nurses told me how happy they were that I came because he kept asking for me and they were getting exhausted and how one nurse couldn’t even handle him for one hour. I just..idk. Don’t tell me that. As his daughter, it does not bring me any comfort to hear that shit.
That’s why I was seeking help. Imagine what his brain is going through.
At one point they’re asking me questions about him and asked how long my parents were together. I said 32 years. One of the nurses responded, “Wow. And you’re telling me your mom didn’t even notice anything before? She should have noticed. You can’t be married that long and not see something coming. People start to notice in their 20s.”
They were so unprofessional.
I just want him to get committed into the psychiatric hospital nearby. I’ve heard great things and I am praying we can move forward as a family.
And I don’t know if it’ll happen.
I do not want to put myself through this again. I love my dad so much I will fight for him to get help, but I feel like I shaved years off my life with what we went through. Somehow we’re going to have to navigate addressing what he needs to do to prevent this from happening again. I am not asking him to be perfect, but I want him to be willing to get help outside of when he is just going through these episodes.
Every aspect of bipolar disorder is so fucking hard. I feel for everyone involved. It’s so tiring. I don’t blame anyone, I am just deeply sad it exists.
Those who have it. Those who love someone who has it. Those helping someone who has it.
——
I know this post was everywhere but this is my only outlet outside of my mom. It’s m lonely out here.

2023.03.21 07:29 payHill2001 $230 ticket, 10 over on ticket: plus other details (Help!)

A car in front of me, two cars in back of me , I traveled in passing lane, all cars going the same normal highway speed (75ish). Just like any other posted in any state: this is normal. Cop picks me out. So my ticket says 75 in a 65. I did not pass his vehicle nor were there meters on this middle of nowhere highway. I am unsure if his caspeedometer was measuring the speed of the car in front of me since I never passed it when meeting his cop car.
Also: a Construction zone/bridge was coming up: car in front of me slows down, I start slowing down: already seeing a cop under the bridge way before. Cop/state trooper (gray SUV) picks me out, motions me and waits for me to drive 20mph through the construction zone (cutting down trees) then gives the ticket downs saying I was going 80 in a 65; ticket says 75 in a 65. On the way back I stop on the other side high way, stop in the emergency lane, and step on the grass to take pictures of the area: trying to show that there are no construction signs pre-the area of i was pulled over to slow down to warrant any increased fine: cop sees me and says I would be in bigger trouble by trying to Film him/doing what I’m doing on the highway: I say yes sir, I quickly leave, was never rude to him, Just felt I would need to have pictures or something to prove what I was saying is correct. (I am not sure how anything in court works to get out of a ticket so I was overly active)
I do not make enough money to pay $230 for going 10 over, even more infuriating that other vehicles were. I commute to my college: my payments of gas and other utilities make it where I am in the negative every month. I was only driving in this area since I cannot afford campus dining, i was getting fast food before my next class. (Obviously not an excuse to a judge but me rationalizing fighting the ticket even if a low chance of success)
Questions: Should I fight this ticket though I most likely pissed off the officer? Can the cop or judge add charges or make my fine greater than it is? For example, could he add trespassing on a highway or something like that for taking photos? Can the officer say it was 80 though my ticket said 75? Any other advice?

2023.03.21 07:24 xtahse Likely fell for a rental scam...

2023.03.21 07:07 DogeRulesWow [Landlord WA-US] Renting a SFH to a Non-profit for office space - Commercial lease? How does that work? Pros and Cons?

I have a SFH as a long term investment. 4 bed/2 bath, complete remodel just finished, extremely nice and in a great neighborhood. I usually rent to a family. (BTW, It is a very pro tenant jurisdiction.)
I’ve been contacted by a nearby Non-profit that they may want to rent it for “office space and storage.” 2+ year lease (I don’t think that’s legal for normal residential). “No one will live there.” Not much other info was given.
Checking them online it seems legit and the person I’m talking to has seen the property (no mention of NP at the time) and is on their website. Staff is 7-9 but they said only a few will be there at a time. $1.5MM operations budget if that matters.
Do you charge the same as a residential lease? Deposit is limited in residential too. Is deposit different in this situation? Having to evict a NP is rare?
Any information or pros and cons or whatever is appreciated!!!
Searching mostly comes back with stuff about taxes and I still need the basic knowledge first.

Can I withdraw an employment verification after I sent it to their apartment complex?
This employee after the employee verification decided to quit. Seems like it was just for the apartment verification. After sending, is it possible to contact the leasing office to tell them about the termination? or should I be a good Samaritan and let it go?

2023.03.21 06:29 Karvier I found a diary written in Manchus language, it was written by a ordinary soldier who served in a Manchus-Mongol combined force in 16th century. I never have heard of something like this before. So I have translated part of it to English with original Manchu text and my own commentary in bold text.

Some quick background: This diary was written by a Manchu soldier who served in a combined unit of Mongols and Manchus , he was sort of like a nowadays squad leader, for he had 4 soldiers under his command. The diary itself covered a period of roughly 3 years: from the New year's day of 1680 to 1682, and it mainly focused on the author's military career during the Manchu conquest of the southern China. Although as you can probably tell, the author himself was not exactly the most educated and bright guy on the earth and due to the nature of his job this diary's narration suffered badly from many huge gaps, it was a really unique and valuable piece of historical source.
In the reign of Elhetaifin khan(the original text omitted this title here, yet the author did use Khan to address his monarch in the later part of the dairy), in year 19, the canary monkey year of the Manchu calendar.
The new year‘s day: General Manggitv(this is apparently either a spelling mistake or a nickname, since this general's name was actually Manggitu as we can find from the later part of the diary and other history sources) led his councilors, janggins (a Manchu military title)and local officials to the city of Nan ning fu (The word fu already means city in Chinese , but the author,as a Manchu, clearly was unaware of it and he probably thought it is a part of the city’s name. So in the original text he wrote Nan ning fui hoton, in which hoton means city in Manchus, thus it could be translated as the city of Nan ning city). They entered the Dung Yoo miyoo(meaning the temple of eastern mountains in Chinese) and made a dedication to the divine. The subordinates of the councillors prostrated themselves to each other to show their courtesy. By the time of the festival, the janggins of the eight banners and soldiers started to eat and drink, even those armoured bayaras(one of the most elite Manchu military units) went on the street, they got some women’s clothes and wore them themselves to pretend like women, and they sang along with those who were singing the song of Doo yang ke (again, ke already means song in Chinese, and the author was not aware of that. I think making this kind of mistake twice probably suggests the author has no knowledge of the Chinese language.)to entertain themselves. The image of the old men (sakdasa in the original text, which probably refers to the author’s parents) emerged in my heart, fuck.
25th,February: Shang zhi xin(a Chinese dynast who serves the Manchus), the mighty conqueror general, the king who pacified the south; along with Manggitu, the general of the south theatre; Ecu, the general of Jiangning; Lebei and Hife, the counsellor and lord of the banner; and Ehene, the vice janggin, met together to hold a war council on the best method to enter and conquer Yun nan(a province in southwestern China). The plan was made, and it was decided that we should initiate the invasion next winter. I sewed a tent and saddle for my horse(not sure what exactly that means,do horses need tents?) and also fixed my weapons.
3rd,March: Mang(this time for sure a nickname of general Manggitu, potentially coined by the author himself) said there was a decree issued from the khan’s court…..(the content of the decree was too long and rather irrelevant, so I did not translate it). I took some time to finish the necessary maintenance.
5th,March: The date of departure was approaching, so an order was given to us to prepare our weapons.
6th,March: Ganduhai and other low-ranked janggins strictly inspected the quantity of the horses. The message of Ma qiyang yen’s rebellion against us was delivered to our camp again, he was the Chinese governor of Bin jeo.
13th,March: General Mang(nickname of Manggitu) selected 3 bayaras from each niru(the manchu equivalent of battalion, roughly 300 men strong), and he handled this force to Hife, the lord of the banner, and Ehene, the janggin of the flag(apparently Mr Ehene got recently promoted). Hife also had 5 regiments of Chinese auxiliary forces under his command, each of which was 1000 men strong . With this army, he was ordered to fight the above-mentioned rebel Ma Qiyang Yen, and he then marched towards the direction of Bin jeo. This day my eight horses(the author forgot to use plural form and accusative case here,I assume it was due to his depression)were stolen by thieves. My heart feels so heavy. After reporting this to the general, the general informed the officials and the civilians about this matter, and an investigation was initiated; it turned out to be fruitless.
16th,March: General Ecu reached Nanning city(I assume the author was learning Chinese, since this time he did not say the city of Nanning city again)from the county of Yung Mvn by water.
20th,March: The military horse from Yung Mvn also reached our camp. The general ordered to allocate these military horses from Yung mvn among those armored soldiers who did not have one. At that time (the couriers) did not want to surrender the horses, so (the general) scolded the leaders of every regiment, calling them weak. General Mang gathered all those janggins of the camps together and told them: "Why have those horses still not been allocated as ordered? You were ignoring my orders! It was not even something hard to do, yet you refused to follow it! Now, go and bring those horses to the city, they are government property! " Then the matter was finally settled.
25th,March: We departed from Nanning city and I was leading a squad of four soldiers in a niru. Mang the general and Lebei, Hife the lord of the banner, led the army, aiming to reach Liu zhou. We marched past the Jing ceng sy(a Chinese temple) and Kun lun pass.
In five days, we marched 170 ba(a Manchu unit of length, each ba equals roughly 500 meters)
30th,March: We reached Bin Jeo; first, we met the Bayara force; then, I and my squad were allocated to the ranks of the Aliha force(it is a combined force of Mongol and Manchu soldiers. The word Aliha means "those who are in charge").We then formed a new platoon.
1st,April: A servant of my platoon mate Hooxan distributed some beef among us. These beef meats were acquired through killing some random natives. This was discovered by the general’s own armoured guards. He called me and other squad leaders to his tent, then he asked us to sit down and comforted us with his kind words. I felt so ashamed. In the end, we were all punished, Ganduhai was sentenced to a fine of three months' salary, I and the vice janggin Dandai were sentenced to a fine of six months' salary. Bosoku (a Manchu military title, refers to a low-ranking cavalry officer) was sentenced to 70 strokes of the cane. Hooxan from the Booju niru, who was the master of the servant, was sentenced to 80 strokes of the cane. The servant was sentenced to 100 strokes of the cane.
4th, April: The rations of the army were running out, so the general decided to move the camp. We moved to a place that was 15 ba away from Bin Jeo. We were ordered to search for food in every nearby village and to hull rice plants if we could find any. I sent the children of my servant to the village,(they)discovered some rice plants hidden by the villagers in their basements, (we)dug a hole in the ground to hull the rice.
6th, April: The Chinese auxiliary force was ordered to build a temporary bridge on the river near Bin Jeo.
8th, April: A decree was issued by the ministry:"Prince kemungge and Brother king Shang zhi xin(previously mentioned Chinese dynast who supports Manchu rule) ,please(the original text was, quite surprisingly, using operative mood) meet together, then use your joint force to attack Ma qiyang yen’s force.General Manggitu, why have you not launched the campaign to enter and conquer Yun nan? You need to explain this to us immediately" Then we heard again the rumour that Hai Qing county,Jin Men, and Xia Men of Fu Jian province were conquered by our empire.
13th,April: Once again, a scolding message was sent from the ministry, asking us to enter and conquer Yun nan.
16th,April:Since the servant of the soldier( probably referring to the Hooxan incident)harmed the local people, a decree that barred all soldiers from leaving their post was issued.
19th,April: We crossed the river near Bin jeo, marching 15 ba, and then we established our camp at a place called Too deng near Xa Moo San. I made a small shack for myself with grass. This day the brother king(Shang zhi xin) sent a letter to our camp:" governor Jin (a Chinese) is leading the marine force and traveling by water with 23 boats. I myself am currently dwelling with military governor Jelken. We shall start to move with our force on April 15th. I pray that your excellency could capture Lai Bin County; if not, I will go and capture Vsiowan County. I hope I can meet you at that place. I wish we could then discuss whether we should wait for Prince Kemungge or simply attack Liu zhou with our own force." And the mighty baturu, the man born for war, the governor of Yun Gui, general Zhao liang dong( a Chinese general who served in Manchu army, he was greatly respected by the author)also sent a secret message to our camp: "The leader of the rebels Wu san gui, Wu guo gui were now dead. The ones left were Wu ying qi, ,Wu Shi Fan, and Hu Gui Zhu. They were nothing but a bunch of incompetent dollards and their morale was already shattered. This is the time to conquer Szechuan! Four(armies)need to conduct attacks together, we shall capture all their land, and it will be done in one strike!" I heard it carefully and respectfully.
23th,April: The war council decided to capture Lai Bin first. Thus, an order to prepare a ration of one month’s worth was issued. I ordered someone to dig a hole in the ground to hull the rice plants.
28th,April: The soldiers were sent out to collect enemy intelligence. I also went out with them.
29th,April: I was sick, I puked.
1st, May: Prince Elhe himself was leading his army back to the north, it was said they were going back to Beijing, I went out to follow him, but contrary to my wish, I failed to go back, fucking frastrute(author made a spelling mistake here, and it was followed by a large gap period, so he was probably super fed up).
7th, May: The rebel leaders from Yun nan, namely Fan Qi Han and Jan Yang, joined forces with Ma Qiyang yen and crossed the river near Lai Bin. We heard that they stopped near the Da Xi Bridge. General Mang ordered all the men to stay within the camp and build fortifications. My troops also participated in building the defences, and they were all complaining.
13th, May: The hostile force was approaching, they stopped at a place 5 ba away from us and set up camp on a monticule. General mixed the Chinese auxiliary forces and our own forces together in order to defend the camp. I was personally patrolling the camp with my full-set of armour on for the entire day.
15th,May: Subordinates of the rebel Ma qiyang ye, fake general Ma qiyang lei, and Rao yi lung, together with the rebel’s fake generals Fan qi han and Jan yang from Yun nan challenged us with more than 10 thousand soldiers. They arranged many anti-horse obstacles and large barriers near Too Deng. The army of the enemy itself was drawn up in a four-line formation and was equipped with many muskets and elephants. Seeing this, General Mang ordered every subcamp to select 1 janggin and 10 armoured soldiers to secure the luggage. Then the rest of the army went out to fight the enemy. Our army was marshalled as follows: "Hife, the lord of the banner, stood at the front of the first line to coordinate the attack. The troops in the second line were commanded by Masita. The first line, in the meantime, was commanded by Ehene. The flank troops of the left wing were commanded by Lebei. In front of the whole army, the general placed the Chinese auxiliary force and their artillery." The enemy rushed towards us; they broke through our first line like it was nothing, and the Chinese could not stop the charging enemy, so they fled from the battle. Seeing this, the banner men from plain red and plain yellow organised two simultaneous attacks with great passion; they penetrated the enemy line, creating two gaps. Yet the enemies fought unyieldingly; they reorganised and concentrated all their forces to strike towards us, ignoring the plain red and yellow bannermen at their flank. Our troops could not stop them, so we started to retreat scatteredly. I saw it all myself, how they drove the bannermen from the bordered blue banner to their anti-horse obstacle. But all of a sudden, the bannermen being chased stopped, and a series of strange "picyang" sounds came from the enemy's direction. Then I saw the soldiers of the first line somehow managed to drive the elephants towards us while the military standards of the bordered yellow banner’s bayara janggin Valda and aliha army(the unit author belonged to)’s vice bosoku( the bosoku himself was probably still recovering from the cane stroke) Ulehi were seized by the enemy. At that time, the soldiers of the second line, including me, saw hardly any option but to shoot desperately towards those beasts. They were charging us from all directions, so we had to shoot while standing back to back, and the elephants looked like hedgehogs. When the elephants acted like grey fishes,(elephants) fled away. My heart felt really strange at that instance, and I could not stop it from beating like crazy. The hostile army then left the plain and retreated to the forest on the mountains. They again arranged some anti-horse obstacles there later that day. We did not fight them again, for our forces went back to the camp to spend the night while defending our fortifications.
