Another Madden $70 re-skin is upon us, so let's take a moment to explore the history of all the people who have been featured on the cover of an pro football video game.
While the selection of the Madden cover athlete is now an event, there was a wild wild west period of football games from the 80s to the mid-2000s where anybody with a computer could and would build football games, with the selection of the cover being all over the place. Roger Craig was the first cover athlete in 1985 on NFL Challenge for MS-DOS. Madden's first game was in 1988, then by the mid-90s getting a cover athlete or spokesman for your football game was pretty standard.
I wanted to compile those games and covers based on this Wiki article (and a few that it was missing from that list) and see who was on the main cover of all of those games (some games were almost completely irrelevant, so I left them off this list). Some of these may have more alternates with other people, but I'll stick with the main cover.

Obviously QBs dominate here, but I didn't realize how little defensive players have been on football game covers (9%), with none being on a cover since Richard Sherman in 2014. I'd love to see more defensive players on the Madden cover. Who would be the most likely defensive guy in the near future? Aaron Donald, TJ Watt, Nick Bosa, Myles Garrett, or Sauce Gardner?

The Re-skins/Commanders?, Jags, Panthers, and Bills have appeared on a cover but never with an athlete as the lead or with a real person. Only the Texans have never appeared at all on the cover of any football video game. I'd say the Bills are most likely to get one next (Josh Allen), then the Jags (Trevor Lawrence), then the Panthers/Texans if either hits a home run with Young or Stroud. The Commanders have a long road ahead to getting a feature cover athlete, unless you ask Sam Howell who thinks he should be this year's Madden cover athlete.
Kordell Stewart, Daunte Culpepper, and Donovan McNabb (and possibly Lamar Jackson, still too early for him) are the only players with multiple appearances that are either not or are unlikely to make the Hall of Fame. McNabb is the only guy to appear in multiple covers in the same year. Also of note, 7 athletes were on a cover without ever making a pro bowl in their careers: Brad Muster, Pat Terrell, Gordon Laro, Chris Zorich, Albert Fontenot, William Floyd, and Peyton Hillis (Hillis was the only one to be the primary cover athlete).

We didn't see the first cover athlete until 1985 with Roger Craig. They didn't really become standard until the early to mid-90s after Madden became a big selling point for the early Madden games. The dip in the last 2 decades is because there's just less games, so any generic football games will have a large effect.
1988: John Madden Football released on the Apple II, MS-DOS, and Commodore 64/128 (partly being developed by Bethesda), which was the beginning of the most dominant franchise in football video games. They featured no NFL teams due to a lack of an NFL license.
1991: Tecmo Super Bowl is probably still my personal favorite football video game. It's totally timeless, and if you pick the Raiders then you're a cheater.
2000: Madden 2001 started the tradition of having their games feature a cover athlete in this format, which consolidated into nearly everyone following this trend.
2001: Backyard Football 2002 was a more kid-friendly version of a football video game, and they also had other games for other professional sports. I definitely played this a lot on my old Windows Me computer, and Pablo Sanchez is a god.
2002: NFL Fever was Microsoft's foray into football video games on the original Xbox. All 3 of their games featured Peyton Manning as the cover athlete.
2002: NFL GameDay 2003 was 989 Sports' exclusive for Sony on the PlayStation platform.
2004: ESPN NFL 2K5 was the last great football game before the NFL exclusively gave their license to the EA. It was this game that definitely led to NFL's decision though, as they slashed their release price to an unheard of $20, which forced Madden 2004 to release at $30 instead of the typical $50. This pissed off the NFL, who decided to have less competition instead.
2006: NFL Head Coach was a new perspective on NFL Games where you play as the coach instead of the players. I enjoyed these although they could get a little boring.
2007: All Pro Football 2K8 was 2K's attempt at keeping the 2K football franchise alive without the coveted NFL license. They got three HoF players on the cover in Elway, Barry, and Rice, but not the actual license to any NFL team. This game received praise for its mechanics, but poor sales showed that a non-NFL licensed game would always struggle to make it.
2011: Madden 12 was maybe the last good Madden game. Also, Peyton Hillis. The only guy on a NFL football game cover to never make a Pro Bowl. This guy is an actual hero though, so good for him.
2019: Doug Flutie's Maximum Football was a mix of american and CFL football as another attempt at making a football game without the NFL license to poor results. They have announced a new game as a free to play title on new platforms, but no games in this franchise have released since 2020.
2020: Retro Bowl is a mobile game more in the style of Tecmo Super Bowl than Madden. It's probably the most successful non-Madden game since ESPN NFL 2K5, and it's pretty fun. People should definitely give this one a try since it's free to play on any mobile platform.
2022: Madden 23 gave the cover back to Madden for the first time since 1999 to honor the passing of the legend John Madden. Unfortunately the game inside the cover was crap, has been the style of Madden games for over a decade.

Hopefully that title was enough to bait you into reading my question. I have an LDO motors 2.4 rev A kit that came with a Stealthburner upgrade kit (beta) and motor for CW2. I’m struggling to find a tutorial/ manual/ guide on how to wire this combination. Included tool head board looks to be for CW1. I see that starting in rev C LDO started shipping with a stealthburner PCB. Do I need to purchase this Stealthburner PCB? Any advice or links to how-tos is greatly appreciated

Hey y’all! I am struggling a little with choosing what to do for my next year as a teacher. I have the opportunity to A) stay in American and teach B) go to Australia and teach (make more money) C) go to England to teach (make less money). Of course the more/less money is just based on what I’m making now in America - it doesn’t reflect the COL in either country so that isn’t a huge deciding factor (other than whether or not I can afford to live there).
What I’m struggling with is how to make the decision. I have always wanted to travel and explore the world but I thought when the opportunity came I would just know and it would be so much easier.
I truly am at a lost at what I should do. How do I pick? How do I know I’m ready? What would make this decision easier? Since I don’t know should i just hold out until I do?
Does anyone have any suggestions or advice for me?

I'm trying to decide between two systems, one with some more luxury parts and some nicer aesthetics with an MSI 4080 Suprim X, and one with more budget parts and an Inno3D 4090 OC. Both systems have a 7800X3D cpu and an H170i AIO (limits my case choices, but I was able to get it cheap). Price is similar for both and it's also pretty much how far my budget stretches. Purpose is (for the foreseeable future) 1440p 165hz gaming, with a strong preference for max settings while maintaining that framerate. Not intending to upgrade again for some years. I'm buying from the Netherlands.

I went out with a girl Friday night. It went really well- there was no awkwardness, conversation flowed, etc. We made plans right away to meet today (sunday) at a local festival. Yesterday evening we were texting and she asked what I was doing. I told her I was catching up on house work (laundry, dishes, paying bills, plant care, vacuuming, cleaned my office and bedroom, etc), which is true. She kept insinuating she wanted to go out and I kept telling her I’m satiating home and saving myself for tomorrow. Her last few texts were “so I take it your in for the night?” Me- “yes”. Her- “best of luck to you”. I texted back asking what that means and she hasn’t responded. So after a few hours I texted and said “ok, best of luck to you too”. Did I avoid a psycho? Did I read the flags right?

Hey y’all! I am struggling a little with choosing what to do for my next year as a teacher. I have the opportunity to A) stay in American and teach B) go to Australia and teach (make more money) C) go to England to teach (make less money). Of course the more/less money is just based on what I’m making now in America - it doesn’t reflect the COL in either country so that isn’t a huge deciding factor (other than whether or not I can afford to live there).
So I’m not struggling with jobs, VISAs, accommodations. What I’m struggling with is how to make the decision.
I truly am at a lost at what I should do. How do I pick? How do I know I’m ready? What would make this decision easier?

I guess it’s my fault you’re a whole grown adult taking a college course and you can’t do middle school algebra. The subject was finance but the only “finance” part was me giving him a formula and telling him to plug in the given values and solve for the 1 missing variable.
So basically this was an algebra problem.
Immediately I’m hit with questions I would have assumed anyone with basic math skills would be able to solve. 500 = 40/.14-g (I made up these numbers but it’s all the same)
And solve for g (growth rate). This guy is doing things I’ve never seen before. I help him get into it and the further we get into the problem the more obvious it is he can’t do basic algebra. So I tell him verbatim “I recommend you see an algebra tutor because even though this is a “finance” problem it’s really algebra to solve it. I then start showing him step by step certain parts. Obviously I’m not an Algebra tutor so I can’t explain that well in words why I’m doing what I’m doing (it’s like explaining how to breathe. Don’t you just do it?). But I do what I can and I know I’m correct so I just keep things moving. I say things like you need to get rid of the fraction, isolate the variable, etc etc. I guess I was speaking Hindi because he had no clue what I was talking about. Was I being a little passive aggressive recommending an algebra tutor? Sure. Brutally honest? Yes. but is it my fault TDC doesn’t vet their students? Is it my fault I’m not an algebra tutor or can’t explain certain things well because I never signed up to tutor those things in the first place? I thought I was being paid to explain financial concepts. When did I become an algebra tutor?
It’s like that one time an “excel” student expected me to explain what IV and DV were. I’m like do I look like I tutor anything science related? Just because you need to do calculations in excel doesn’t mean the tutor is supposed to know literally everything about that subject. I can calculate or graph statistics problems in excel but I am NOT a statistics tutor so don’t expect me to explain what the numbers mean.
This has got to stop with these students who somehow are taking classes without basic math skills or whatever skills. And this Memorial Day weekend I’ve gotten the worst students I’ve seen in a while. Here I thought it would be a ghost town but I’ve gotten so many students. And why is TDC accepting students who obviously don’t fall into the categories of established subjects. I tutor intro finance. Why am I getting questions/assignments from “MBA” students, and classes I took junior and senior year WHICH BY DEFINITION is not introductory? We’re not stupid. Tutors know what is supposed to be covered in their subject and what isn’t.
Had a student come in and say she needs help with excel. I say ok can you share what you’re working on. She says how do I do that. I use the share file premade response thing. She says if she does that she will “lose me” and will have to connect again. I said no you wouldn’t. But if you’re unable to share anything you will have to join again when you have your files ready. Well you probably saved me an hour of painstaking torturous work anyway so I really don’t give a damn. And if she was this easily angry I’m glad I didn’t have to waste my time. When will these students learn they need us more than we need them? I get paid regardless. You throwing a temper tantrum because you don’t want to upload a file doesn’t impact me in any way shape or form. Acceptance rate goes up and I get paid and I dodge a bullet having to work with you. In fact you saved me the headache of having to tutor you. So many children masquerading as adults on this platform and it’s really sad.

Please help me find a specific type of ADHD assistive device.

I have a new doctor who sees a need to reevaluate (screw with)- my ADHD med dosages.
Looking for wearable tech with a repeat or loop countdown timer (anything up to 99 minutes, and customizable); it must start a new countdown on its own without my needing to reset it (I won’t!)
The timer should have have options for vibration and/or audible alarm.
Needs to be $50 or less, or made of unbreakable platinum, because it’s going to get banged around a lot. I’m a clutz.
Or as my mama says, “It’s a good thing I didn’t name you Grace!”
It would be awesome to have a regular time/day of the week/day of the month feature, but not essential.
Having this wearable will (hopefully) force me to evaluate what activity I’m engaged in VS what I should be doing at that time.
Then I just have to hope I have enough self-control to regroup & return to the task I need to focus on. I don’t want a newer Apple Watch or Fitbit. I’ll lose it or forget to charge it or leave it on at the lake or in the shower.
I’ve looked at potty-training timers, but many of them have a max of 8, 12 or 15 alarms. And are obviously for preschoolers. No countdown timers.
I’ve looked at stuff for counting laps in the pool or timing gymnastic routines. GymBoss looks ok, but is much bigger than I want. I’d prefer not to have a pager on my wrist.
There are exercise interval timers, but they only go up to 2 minutes.
Most of them have an issue ruling them out: they either look very childish (unicorns & dinosaurs), are too big to be a comfortable wearable (GymBoss), need a phone to program it, have specialty chargers, require intervention to restart or are hecka expensive.
I’d take a free Apple Watch, but $$$

hey so I have been dating this guy for about four months now he’s super chill but sometimes I feel like we aren’t on the same page he has his cousin she’s 34 and she seems to always have something negative to say about what I’m wearing. I’m 27 and he’s 27 it’s like that type of playful but negative joking I never got it. I wore a skirt yesterday and she said “you look like a slave from behind” and I told her “OK I’m still gonna wear my outfit”and she was like “oh you’re no fun. I expected you to argue with me.” She seems very stoic and not used to my fun carefree attitude, but the guy that I’m seeing he doesn’t say anything to her, it kind of bothers me. he just lets her make her little smart comments.
Another thing is that this guy and I have been dating and talking for like five months and he’s never been on the phone with me. he asked to exclusively date and i agreed. These past months I’ve noticed that my parents tend to choose more pricey restaurants when it was my turn to pay, while during Paul’s turn we would go to food court at the mall or the local pizza place or something along that line. Often, the amount Paul paid for the entire outing could barely cover the price of one single dish at the restaurant I had to pay.
I finally confronted my parents about this without Paul. Seriously, money is not the issue, I’m doing OK, but the disparity just left me wondering. I asked them if there’s anything going on with Paul that could impact their choices. Paul has always been closer to our parents.
My parents told me that Paul was seeing a girl and since he was already in his thirties they thought it would be great for him to “make plans for the future” so they thought they would help him save up a bit. I was flabbergasted. I asked if she was pregnant or was Paul planning to propose to her soon. They said no to both questions but thought that since I’m still young and single, I can afford it better than Paul.

I (19m) have been friends with my buddy (19m) for 19 years. We were born just a month apart and lived next door to each other. I moved away at 4 but we were able to keep in touch through our parents. When we both got phones at around 13-14 we started to communicate to each a lot more and played video games together nearly everyday. Our relationship has been good and I’ve even made the 3 hour trip from Wisconsin to Indiana to see him a few times over the years.
Recently, we haven’t been talking as much, I didn’t really think of it. We’re both graduating high school and he doesn’t quite know what he’s doing yet and it’s quite stressful for any senior. We actually had the idea to have our grad party together. A few weeks ago I reached out to ask him about it and got no response. Again, it happens sometimes, so about a week ago I reached out again. Again, nothing. So I read of texting him on Snapchat I texted him on IMessage and Instagram. Despite him being “active” on both platforms, no response. I messaged him asking if everything was ok and if I did anything wrong to no avail. So finally, I told him it was my last attempt reaching out and again asked if he wanted to talk about it and how friendships need effort to stay strong. Again, nothing.
After being ignored, I reached out to his GF to see if she had any insight. To my surprise, she replied “I don’t think he wants to be your friend anymore.” Of course I asked why, she then said “he’s doesn’t like the way you make fun of him and try to embarrass him.”
First off I want to say that those feeling are completely valid. I can understand not wanting to be made fun of. Like I said we live in different states so have developed different friend groups. Where I live we just poke fun at each other all the time, that’s just how we are. So when I talk to him I just imagine it’s like talking to my friends at home. He had never said anything to me about not liking the way I treated him so I just assumed that his friend group must be similar to mine. So I kept talking to him the way I do with all my friends. I never say things that are very deep. Mostly surface level things like “you’re stupid” “you’re a fatass” stupid things that are rude, but again, things that I don’t view as serious because it’s the way me and my friends talk.
I’ve struggled with this for a few days and want to know, do I deserve to be ignored and should I just accept that I’m the asshole?
EDIT: I saw some comments saying I should apologize, and I have. I sent a few text asking what I did wrong and what I can do better and apologizing, however he haven’t read any of my messages for the last few weeks so I don’t think he’s seen it.
