I'm working on a similar plan to the post "Am I being reckless or naive?" in broadly similar circumstances, and would really appreciate any feedback on my plans, in particular how best to hold a dwindling lump sum efficiently for a number of years.
I'm saving cash now to enable 2 years "free" living with my pensions deferred, then I will be accessing a 10k dB pension that rises with inflation to a max of 2.5% pa, and the tax free lump sum from the DC pension portion, so not being liable for incone tax until state pension age.
It's a hybrid DB/DC pension, and as such the tax free lump sum calculation uses the DB fund value as well as the DC fund value when calculated, delivering nearer to 50% of the DC value tax free and retaining 100% of the DB benefit. I plan to hold this cash until it's all spent, which should take 8 years. Holding cash for this term doesn't seem ideal, but feels safer than leaving it invested, not taking my full tax free entitlement and drawing down as needed instead, as that has tax implications.
Income requirement is 20k pa, and the cash and tax free lump should last 8 years with a 20k emergency fund buffer which I want to retain well into full state pension time. I'm mortgage free and not downsizing.
After the 8 years of non taxable income for my early retirement, the untouched and invested DC remainder doesn't need to have grown in the meantime to still deliver the required top up to state pension plus DB pension moving forward, and so I've worked on getting zero growth over those 8 years. I expect 10k DB pension plus 10k state pension, but would then be back to being taxed, and so require my DC fund to pay the tax and potentially give me a little income increase.
Does that seem realistic? I've not accounted for inflation per se, however I feel the DB rising up to 2.5% pa and the state pension triple lock should be close to covering me, and I've assumed zero growth on the DC remainder for 8 years which hopefully shouldn't be the case.
Am I overlooking anything?

We just started a massive remodeling project for our two-story townhome (part of an association) under the guidance of a family friend.
Basically, we totally remodeled the kitchen (totally gutted, brand new appliances, even taking out a part of the counter), changed the carpet flooring to vinyl, and remodel of one bathroom.
We didn't force a contract due to that relationship and are now starting to regret it. Here's why:
- The workers have damaged some furniture (very unprofessional)
- The family friend is asking for large checks every few weeks, we have no real idea where this money is going to (he said it's for "labor costs")
- Home was built in 1975 and we have popcorn ceilings. We tested the home when we bought it and it was negative for asbestos, but upon checking on the progress, we see that the entire place is covered in dust (workers have been sweeping it, but we're worried that maybe other layers of the paint were not tested for when we first bought the place. I doubt the family friend tested for it, but we may have to ask him for an asbestos report, there are still things in the home that we need to get, and we don't want to expose ourselves in the worst case). We've gone inside the home twice since the popcorn ceiling removal and the dust is almost unbearable, so really worried about a potential exposure.
- Family friend gave us measurements for major appliances, we bought them, and they didn't fit, but he didn't tell us until well after the 48 hour return policy for Home Depot and Lowe's, so I had to do some major damage control for this.
I want to ask this subreddit for advice. At this point, we're very unhappy with how this is going, but we're scared of stopping everything because it's in the middle of the remodel. We were going to have him do the upper floor too, but so far he's only done the lower floor. He keeps upping the cost estimate as well (don't want to go into specifics, but it's a lot).

Hi, I’ve had a thought and my brain isn’t quite good enough how to work it out so I’m hoping you can help. If me, hubby and kid (12) sold our house (currently worth about £350-375k - about £99k left on mortgage) and my mum in law (71) sold hers which is worth about £375k with no mortgage. Could we buy a fab house and build an extension on the side for her to live in with us (technically her downsizing)? She has another son so we would need to be able to split something from the sale of her house evenly so it was fair to him too. Would that be half of the sale price of hers? What kind of priced house should we look at? what do we put in? What does she put in?I hope you get the jist of what I mean. I got my M3 delivered in Dec 22, and there was a decent sized scratch on delivery, and the advisor at pick up created a ticket for me, took all the pictures and said I'd just have to come in the following week to get it fixed. So I did just that, when I went back they said I needed to go to a body shop. Since then, I've opened multiple tickets, all of which get closed. I found an 800 number somewhere and was able to get in touch with a manager, but they've completely ghosted me and the process was so long drawn out because I'd have to keep repeating the story to the next representative.

I guess it’s my fault you’re a whole grown adult taking a college course and you can’t do middle school algebra. The subject was finance but the only “finance” part was me giving him a formula and telling him to plug in the given values and solve for the 1 missing variable.
So basically this was an algebra problem.
Immediately I’m hit with questions I would have assumed anyone with basic math skills would be able to solve. 500 = 40/.14-g (I made up these numbers but it’s all the same)
And solve for g (growth rate). This guy is doing things I’ve never seen before. I help him get into it and the further we get into the problem the more obvious it is he can’t do basic algebra. So I tell him verbatim “I recommend you see an algebra tutor because even though this is a “finance” problem it’s really algebra to solve it. I then start showing him step by step certain parts. Obviously I’m not an Algebra tutor so I can’t explain that well in words why I’m doing what I’m doing (it’s like explaining how to breathe. Don’t you just do it?). But I do what I can and I know I’m correct so I just keep things moving. I say things like you need to get rid of the fraction, isolate the variable, etc etc. I guess I was speaking Hindi because he had no clue what I was talking about. Was I being a little passive aggressive recommending an algebra tutor? Sure. Brutally honest? Yes. but is it my fault TDC doesn’t vet their students? Is it my fault I’m not an algebra tutor or can’t explain certain things well because I never signed up to tutor those things in the first place? I thought I was being paid to explain financial concepts. When did I become an algebra tutor?
It’s like that one time an “excel” student expected me to explain what IV and DV were. I’m like do I look like I tutor anything science related? Just because you need to do calculations in excel doesn’t mean the tutor is supposed to know literally everything about that subject. I can calculate or graph statistics problems in excel but I am NOT a statistics tutor so don’t expect me to explain what the numbers mean.
This has got to stop with these students who somehow are taking classes without basic math skills or whatever skills. And this Memorial Day weekend I’ve gotten the worst students I’ve seen in a while. Here I thought it would be a ghost town but I’ve gotten so many students. And why is TDC accepting students who obviously don’t fall into the categories of established subjects. I tutor intro finance. Why am I getting questions/assignments from “MBA” students, and classes I took junior and senior year WHICH BY DEFINITION is not introductory? We’re not stupid. Tutors know what is supposed to be covered in their subject and what isn’t.
Had a student come in and say she needs help with excel. I say ok can you share what you’re working on. She says how do I do that. I use the share file premade response thing. She says if she does that she will “lose me” and will have to connect again. I said no you wouldn’t. But if you’re unable to share anything you will have to join again when you have your files ready. Well you probably saved me an hour of painstaking torturous work anyway so I really don’t give a damn. And if she was this easily angry I’m glad I didn’t have to waste my time. When will these students learn they need us more than we need them? I get paid regardless. You throwing a temper tantrum because you don’t want to upload a file doesn’t impact me in any way shape or form. Acceptance rate goes up and I get paid and I dodge a bullet having to work with you. In fact you saved me the headache of having to tutor you. So many children masquerading as adults on this platform and it’s really sad.

I bought two tickets a month ago for the concert tonight, for my fiance and I. My son's grandparents on my side were going to pick him up for a couple weeks around this time anyways, so babysitting was planned for when I bought them.
Then plans changed, because my family is just like that and I should have known better than to buy tickets so far ahead. So my fiance didn't wind up asking for the night off, because we didn't think we could make it.
Then plans changed AGAIN, as my son's other set of grandparents decided they would come get him instead, both to help us out/give us a break and because they missed him anyways. But they just picked him up today so it's too late for my fiance to get the day off.
I want to go, I fucking love Bridge City Sinners. The music, the vibe, I saw them live as an opener for Days n Daze and that was my introduction to them. They blew me out of the water, I do not want to miss this.
But I also really don't want to go alone because I have hella anxiety and need at least one semi familiar person I can stick close to.
The concert is in like 9 hours. I don't know if anyone here is close enough to catch the show, or if anyone who is will see this in time. It's a long shot. But fuck it, I figured it couldn't hurt to give it a try.
Obviously I wanna chat for a bit first, just to scout for any red flags. I'm broke and 4 years sober, no one would get anything worthwhile robbing me anyways. (Diet sobriety, I still smoke pot, just nothing too crazy.)

I believe you can address small issues through open communication. It might get tense but it's healthier than letting things fester. By the end of the conversation you understand each other better.
My husband is conflict avoidant. He often causes a conflict that could have been a conversation because he gets mad that I'm trying to talk through something he sees as inconsequential. Problem is he sees basically everything as inconsequential and his goal whenever it does have merit to him is to end the conversation as quickly as possible. Disagreement and voicing of concerns can lead to better closeness in a relationship but it will never happen when he's approaching it like this.
He struggles to make room for more than one perspective. He thinks he is right and I'm wrong and if I can just see the error of my ways everything is fine. I told him I don't feel like you respect me as an equal person who has an equal say over what is happening between us and he says how can he respect me if I'm not being respectable?
I wasn't yelling or name calling or insulting him. I was just trying to discuss the underlying issues in an incident that occurred.
He thought I had taken the bread he was heating up for his dinner but he didn't say that. He just saw me with bread and says what's going on with the bread. I'm like what do you mean. It took forever to get him to admit he thought I had taken the bread he was heating up for himself. This is an example of him not saying what he really means. He didn't mean what's going on he meant why did you take my bread. But he was being conflict avoidant so he didn't actually say that. I also didn't like him thinking I'd done something I didn't do. I needed to understand what he thought was happening so I could understand how to talk about it.
He decided this was an argument and it didn't have to be. I said you're right it doesn't. But he was not open in answering my questions and did not share my goal of trying to understand where the miscommunication or misunderstanding happened so we could watch for it next time. And then he started stonewalling me. He said later he was overwhelmed and needed a time out but he never presents it that way. It's always "I'm done." Which I think is super disrespectful.
I am sure if he would be more willing to discuss things, identify needs, problem solve and negotiate, I'd try to discuss them less. But he just shuts me down. He wants to keep everything on the surface.
We are in marriage counseling already. I've sent him many articles about how conflict avoidance actually causes problems. Conflict is healthy and necessary and strengthens a relationship when done well. And conflict is necessary for intimacy. He doesn't care if the experts agree with me. He just cares about not feeling his feelings and talking about them I guess.
So last night after all this happened and he said I wasn't acting respectable because I want to talk through something he thinks isn't worth talking through, I got really fed up. He basically never thinks something is worth discussing. The only time he participated cooperatively was when I caught him having multiple long phone calls with a coworker that he timed to have when I wasn't around. Everything else he is just being selfish in expecting his way to be the way I feel.
So I was fed up and I said: fine if you want this toxic level of avoidance where nobody talks about anything, ok. I'll try to give you that. But it will come at a cost because relationships cannot be healthy or functional without meaningful communication. I want to keep our family together but I cannot have a romantic relationship with someone that doesn't respect me as an equal because he has a hard time discussing things so I will need to be able to seek a relationship outside the marriage. I cannot be physically intimate with someone that doesn't respect me as a person based on thinking his value system is universally correct. I am happy to have a co-parenting and roommate relationship but you can't cherry pick the pieces of a romantic relationship you want to have. You either have the sometimes tense conversations where you learn and grow together and get closer, plus the sex and whatever else you get out of it, or you don't get any of those things. But it's a package deal and I've waited years for you to be able to feel your feelings and talk about them without shutting down, lashing out, or making me wrong. I don't deserve to be blatantly disrespected and I want no part of a romantic relationship with someone that thinks about me this way.
I just don't know what else to do. If your partner is so convinced they are right, they cannot meet in the middle, they think they should be able to unilaterally decide what warrants a conversation, what else can I even do? I'm right that it is either leave, or accept he won't change, right? If he doesn't respect me then he won't respect any reasoning I give for him to deal with this differently. But he isn't respecting the experts either. Our marriage counselor confronted me in the last session. I wish he would confront my husband too. He's being such a sexist jerk. You can't have a relationship with a woman then refuse to accommodate the way women operate.

My husband is conflict avoidant. He often causes a conflict that could have been a conversation because he gets mad that I'm trying to talk through something he sees as inconsequential. Problem is he sees basically everything as inconsequential and his goal whenever it does have merit to him is to end the conversation as quickly as possible. Disagreement and voicing of concerns can lead to better closeness in a relationship but it will never happen when he's approaching it like this.
He struggles to make room for more than one perspective. He thinks he is right and I'm wrong and if I can just see the error of my ways everything is fine. I told him I don't feel like you respect me as an equal person who has an equal say over what is happening between us and he says how can he respect me if I'm not being respectable?
I wasn't yelling or name calling or insulting him. I was just trying to discuss the underlying issues in an incident that occurred.
He thought I had taken the bread he was heating up for his dinner but he didn't say that. He just saw me with bread and says what's going on with the bread. I'm like what do you mean. It took forever to get him to admit he thought I had taken the bread he was heating up for himself. This is an example of him not saying what he really means. He didn't mean what's going on he meant why did you take my bread. But he was being conflict avoidant so he didn't actually say that. I also didn't like him thinking I'd done something I didn't do. I needed to understand what he thought was happening so I could understand how to talk about it.
He decided this was an argument and it didn't have to be. I said you're right it doesn't. But he was not open in answering my questions and did not share my goal of trying to understand where the miscommunication or misunderstanding happened so we could watch for it next time. And then he started stonewalling me. He said later he was overwhelmed and needed a time out but he never presents it that way. It's always "I'm done." Which I think is super disrespectful.
I am sure if he would be more willing to discuss things, identify needs, problem solve and negotiate, I'd try to discuss them less. But he just shuts me down. He wants to keep everything on the surface.
We are in marriage counseling already. I've sent him many articles about how conflict avoidance actually causes problems. Conflict is healthy and necessary and strengthens a relationship when done well. And conflict is necessary for intimacy. He doesn't care if the experts agree with me. He just cares about not feeling his feelings and talking about them I guess.
So last night after all this happened and he said I wasn't acting respectable because I want to talk through something he thinks isn't worth talking through, I got really fed up. He basically never thinks something is worth discussing. The only time he participated cooperatively was when I caught him having multiple long phone calls with a coworker that he timed to have when I wasn't around. Everything else he is just being selfish in expecting his way to be the way I feel.
So I was fed up and I said: fine if you want this toxic level of avoidance where nobody talks about anything, ok. I'll try to give you that. But it will come at a cost because relationships cannot be healthy or functional without meaningful communication. I want to keep our family together but I cannot have a romantic relationship with someone that doesn't respect me as an equal because he has a hard time discussing things so I will need to be able to seek a relationship outside the marriage. I cannot be physically intimate with someone that doesn't respect me as a person based on thinking his value system is universally correct. I am happy to have a co-parenting and roommate relationship but you can't cherry pick the pieces of a romantic relationship you want to have. You either have the sometimes tense conversations where you learn and grow together and get closer, plus the sex and whatever else you get out of it, or you don't get any of those things. But it's a package deal and I've waited years for you to be able to feel your feelings and talk about them without shutting down, lashing out, or making me wrong. I don't deserve to be blatantly disrespected and I want no part of a romantic relationship with someone that thinks about me this way.
I just don't know what else to do. If your partner is so convinced they are right, they cannot meet in the middle, they think they should be able to unilaterally decide what warrants a conversation, what else can I even do? I'm right that it is either leave, or accept he won't change, right? If he doesn't respect me then he won't respect any reasoning I give for him to deal with this differently. But he isn't respecting the experts either. Our marriage counselor confronted me in the last session. I wish he would confront my husband too. He's being such a sexist jerk. You can't have a relationship with a woman then refuse to accommodate the way women operate.

It seems like unity's "==" does not properly compare references (unless I'm dumb).
Here, I have this piece of script :

My strategy is fairly sound and profitable, but it's not entirely risk free and feel the need to ask the important questions to understand some of the existing potential (and serious) risks:

That means in the event of a Tether collapse, if were to have any position opened long then those positions would increase in value in relation to Tether's. Short positions would then be put in a squeeze which would likely need extra margin added to prevent any liquidations.
How would kucoin handle this situation? Would kucoin close it's futures markets or suspend trading if USDT depegged or would it allow trading to continue as per usual if it did?
And what would happen to kucoin's liabilities and debts if a USDT depeg happened? For example: if the exchange lent out other assets in return for USDT, then it's balance sheet would be experiencing some serious unrealized losses. The exchange itself might be forced to make some big OTC trades to meet liquidity demands as traders scramble to exit positions and markets. This could lead to an solvency issue, especially if all depositors start pulling funds out of central exchanges. That could lead to a potential bankruptcy situation for kucoin. Even if it is highly regarded in the space for many years now and survived through the worst crashes in crypto history; these question still needs to be addressed.
I understand that this place is mostly a poster board for memes and maybe some small technical questions, but this is a serious question with big implications for those who are trading on this market. It would be nice if a reputable member could provide some insight to this potential crisis situation that might hypothetically have some probability of happening even if it is low.

I started some weeks ago with a Gaggia classic pro (and an old Grinder, which was a interim solution). My goal was a good entry with a (for me) good value for money. A good grinder is crucial for me. I was guided by reddit and youtube and purchased the G-iota DF64. The quality of the device convinced me. I am very satisfied with the grinding result and the taste experience. A good combination to start making espresso... Now I have read somewhere about the DF64: ... "It’s not perfect, but it seems to be built for the sole purpose of being modded? A bit like the grinder-version of the Gaggia Classic."

Let's suppose you are in a relationship, and at some point you start to think that you are too much different from your partner. Maybe you desire something else, maybe she is not right for you anymore... and when I say "not right" I don't mean "she is not the one", I know the one perfect girlfriend doesn't exist, but let's say you start to value things and you understand that despite there is some love you desire something else.
Well, the logical solution would be breaking up, so both people can go their way...
But you are REALLY sad about leaving this person, you are still emotionally conncted to them, so you start to have doubts... "what if I'm being too harsh? What if am exaggerating?" You start to think that maybe you are wrong and you are leaving for the wrong reason... that the problems and the things you don't like are the baseline of every relationship. Then you stay, but the next time you find something that bothers you... It all starts again from the beginning. There we go: you have ROCD.
The thing I don't understand is that in order to beat this awful compulsion, it requires you to live in the moment, and you should not seeking reasurrance... you don't have to worry about what will it be. But, doing this, you are STAYING with the person, and you are in fact choosing to stay... Maybe you wanted to leave in the first place, but the Rocd is winning making you stay...
I read a lot about rocd, but all the time the solution is staying with the person... but if someone has a legitimate doubt about leaving, how does it know what to do?
This, of course, is my situation. I don't know if Im seeking reassurance or not, I hope some of you will tell me... I'm in this situation since almost a year, and in this year I tried to remain in the relationship... I tried to ignore my compulsion, and sometimes it worked, but then again I am here, wondering if I'm in the right relationship, wondering what is out there, desiring other experiences... In the end, how do I know what is dictated by panic between leaving or breaking up? And how can I not have panic when I'm taking an important decision like leaveing my 4 years first girlfriend?

I have just recently started doing my own investing by opening a traditional IRA, and my strategy is just to continue to purchase stock in VOO, VEU, BLV, and BND. However, my question is when does it make sense to open a TBA? For context, I am 30, married, with two young kids and waited to invest after all my debts were paid off, house included. In work retirement accounts, we have about 260k total, and are not full maxing out contributions, about 10k invested last fiscal year in 401k. At the end of each monthly budget, we have about 5k remaining.
I do not have want for many items as I value experiences more, and we can cash flow most purchases, but in my thinking, We are going to have a ton of money in retirement accounts, and I do not believe in being the richest person in the cemetery. We have a plan to pass on generational wealth as well.
Why would a taxable brokerage account be beneficial, and if so, should the portfolio still mirror a three fund split, or should it have more aggressive ETFS or even single stocks. Sorry, if this post is all over the place, but I'm hooked, and have been trying to read what I can, but it seems there is a lot more information on retirement and taxed advantage accounts rather than TBAs. My(F) boyfriend(M) of 2 years has an alcohol problem on top of mental health issues. He will get very mad and say the worst things (cunt, bitch, fuck you, ugly) to me over the smallest situations. 9 times out of 10 we talk the next day and it’s always a miscommunication. I’ve said mean things back to him before but for the most part I refrain bc I don’t believe that is ever the way to handle things, I grew up fighting with my mom like that and it’s toxic and only harms relationships. I love him so much and he’s grown so much in the last 2 years so I’ve listened to his apologies and have forgiven him countless times. I’m not saying I’m perfect by any means but this happens at least once a week, this week it’s happened 3 times.
